The girls of the Big Bang Theory are scoring big after the series wrapped. Kaley Cuoco in The Flight Attendant, Mayim Bialik on Jeopardy! and now Melissa Rauch, who is set to executive produce a Night Court reboot with John Larroquette. The new Night Court will center on Judge Abby Stone (Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone (played by Harry Anderson in the original). The optimistic Abby follows in her dad’s footsteps presiding  over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court while trying to bring order to the random assortment of people who pass through her courtroom.

For the first time in Emmy history, streaming platforms sweep the three main series categories. Netflix took outstanding drama for The Crown and outstanding limited series for The Queen’s Gambit; Apple TV+ scored outstanding comedy for Ted Lasso. Netflix lead all winners with 10, HBO/HBO Max was next with nine. Apple TV+ followed with four. See full results here.

Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit won nine Creative Arts Emmys going into the weekend’s Primetime Emmys. Netflix also out achieved all other the networks/platforms, with 34 trophies. Disney+ was a distant second with 13, followed by the combined HBO/HBO Max with 10, including the sibling streamer’s first-ever Emmy. NBC and Apple TV+ have seven each, and VH1 has five.

Disney+’s The Mandalorian and NBC’s Saturday Night Live are tied for second with seven wins each, followed by Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots with six. VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race and Netflix’s The Crown have four. See the rest of the results on Deadline.com.

I really don’t get why the Spiderman movie franchise is so popular these days, but four Spiderman movies made the JustWatch Top 10 Movies screened last week. Go figure. On the other hand, I totally understand why Hulu’s remarkable Only Murders in the Building, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez topped the list of most watched streaming series. Michael K. Williams, the mesmerizing actor and five-time Emmy nominee best known for his role on HBO’s The Wire, was found dead in his Brooklyn home today. He was 54.

I was mesmerized by him as Chalky White in Empire, and thrilled to see him in the recent Lovecraft Country, for which he was nominated for an Emmy this year,for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. He was also amazing in Ava DuVernay’s 2019 Netflix miniseries When They See Us. Find a wonderfully written obituary in The Hollywood Reporter.

I confess we’re making our way back through Downton Abbey, starting with Season One and watching one episode almost every night before we go to bed. It puts us in a kinder, gentler, more relaxed mood—especially compared to watching the news at that hour. So we were thrilled when the heard more details from Focus Features and Carnival Films on the new title of the highly anticipated Downton Abbey film sequel: Downton Abbey: A New Era. The film is slated to be released in the United States on Friday, March 18, 2022.

And get this: the original principal cast has returned for the second film, along with new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West. Can’t wait!

The late iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld will be the subject of a Disney+ limited series, and it promises to be a scorcher! The series will explore the life and career of the controversial German designer, who served as creative director of the French fashion house Chanel from 1983 until his death in 2019.  Crossing our fingers it’s as good as Halston was, and every bit as dishy as House of Gucci promises to be!
