AppleTV+ Goes BIG With Meryl and More
Meryl Streep is headed back to the small screen for Apple TV+’s new climate change anthology series Extrapolations. She’ll be joined by fellow A-Listers Kit Harington and Matthew Rhys in the eight-episode drama. The cast also includes Sienna Miller, Gemma Chan, Daveed Diggs, David Schwimmer and Adarsh Gourav, plus more actors to be announced shortly.
First Look at Season6 of Outlander
STARZ dropped the Outlander Season 6 teaser trailer at New York Comic Con recently, and boy did our hearts skip a beat! They announced that Season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on STARZ in the U.S. and STARZPLAY in the UK. The last time we saw Claire and Jamie, Claire had just escaped a violent encounter with Lionel Brown and returned to Fraser’s Ridge. The threat of the Revolutionary War looms over the ridge and Claire and Jamie must choose what is best for their family. Okay, so we could have predicted that. It’s still fun to see what’s coming. What We Streamed Last Week
It should come as no surprise that Squid Game was the most watch TV show last week — it’s the most popular show ever on Netflix. Hey, even I’m into it! It’s the perfect show to binge while you’re working out — keeps you in the gym for an entire episode, and keeps you going back often. On the movie side, there’s no accounting for taste. Free Guy finally started streaming, and Venom snowballded because the sequel hit theaters like an avalanche. I’ll stick with the Squid.
‘Foundation’ Builds on a Second Season
Have you seen Foundation, the lavish, world rocking Apple TV+ sci-fi series based on author Isaac Asimov’s trilogy of novels? If you have, you’ll be overjoyed to know that it’s been renewed for a second season. Apparently, the renewal happened a couple years ago to keep the expansive production on track, but they’re just announcing it now. Showrunner David S. Goyer has mentioned he wants Foundation to run eight seasons. Yes, it’s sort of a Game of Thrones in space.
New ‘Sex and the City’ Christmas Present
As part of the virtual launch event for HBO Max Europe, it was announced that the highly anticipated Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That will debut on HBO Max in December. The new chapter, from executive producer Michael Patrick King, follows “Carrie” (Sarah Jessica Parker), “Miranda” (Cynthia Nixon) and “Charlotte” (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. First Look at ‘House of the Dragon’
HBO just released the first official teaser for its upcoming drama series House of the Dragon, and it looks like it will be everything we hoped for. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the harrowing story of House Targaryen. Take a look:
November Will Be ‘The Great’ Month
Yet another reason to look forward to November: Season Two of The Great premieres Friday, November 19th. In the sophomore season of the delightfully dirty show, Catherine finally takes the Russian throne for her own — but if she thought coup-ing her husband was difficult, it’s nothing compared to the realities of ‘liberating’ a country that doesn’t want to be. Cue the battles with her court, her team, her own mother and her husband/prisoner/ally/lover.
Jesse Palmer Steps in for Chris Harrison on ‘The Bachelor’
Bachelor Nation is all abuzz over the announcement that former bachelor Jesse Palmer will be Chris Harrison’s latest replacement. The ESPN analyst — who starred as the Bachelor in 2004 — has landed the gig, at least for the 2022 season. If all goes well, it could be an ongoing thing. Now they just have to announce who the next Bachelor is going to be. The only thing we know about him is that he’s a contender from the upcoming, Michelle Young season of The Bachelorette. What do you want to bet he’s a finalist?
‘The Righteous Gemstones’ Reappear
HBO unveiled first look images of the raucously religious second season of the hit comedy series The Righteous Gemstones, featuring series stars Danny McBride, John Goodman, Adam Devine, Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Walton Goggins and new recurring stars Jason Schwartzman, Eric Andre and Jessica Lowe. Eric Roberts will also join the cast as a new recurring character. Slated to premiere sometime in the winter of 2020, season two finds the blessed Gemstone family threatened by outsiders from both the past and present who wish to destroy their empire.
Official Date for Cable Launch of Chip and Jo’s Magnolia Network
We understand the confusion. You’ve been hearing about new programming from Chip and Joanna Gaines‘ Magnolia network for months, but you can’t find it on cable TV. That’s because the network first launched on paid streamer Discovery+. But as of January 5th, 2022, the Magnolia Network officially replaces the DIY Network on cable.
Magnolia Network’s inaugural linear slate will feature episodes from original series such as Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, Home Work, The Lost Kitchen, Family Dinner, The Johnnyswim Show, Super Dad and more, in addition to the full, five-season Fixer Upper library. Episodes from the iconic series This Old House will also air on Magnolia Network. All good stuff.
It’s Official — Amazon’s Doing a Spinoff of ‘The Boys’
Class is in session for the Supes. Amazon Studios has ordered a new series spinoff of The Boys, the Emmy-nominated subversive superhero drama from Sony Pictures Television. Set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International), the Untitled The Boys Spinoff is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games.
