Here’s a heads up for George Clooney’s latest project: He’ll produce, direct and star in an untitled film based on the sci-fi novel “Good Morning, Midnight” for Netflix.
Lily Brooks-Dalton’s debut novel is the story of two outsiders—a lonely scientist in the Arctic and an astronaut trying to return to Earth—as they grapple with love, regret, and survival in a world transformed. It’ll be my next Kindle read. Find it on Kindle and paperback below:
ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE — The Latest From Netflix Packs a Crazy Punch
Netflix’ latest rom com, Always Be My Maybe, starring Ali Wong and Randall Park, threatens to forever park itself in “cute enough” land, but a wildly bizarre appearance by none other than Keanu Reeves sends it racing across the “damn funny” finish line.
Not that the performances by the two leads and the supporting cast aren’t fun and refreshing, it’s just that that surprise shot of Reeves takes it to a whole ‘nother level. The premise is simple: grade school BFFs experience a prickly reunion 15 years later, when she has become a celebrity chef and he has become…nothing. Streaming now on Netflix.
Must See TV: Amazon’s GOOD OMENS
It stars Michael Sheen as an angel and David Tennant as a demon, who must work together to avoid Armageddon. Prophesy says it will be instigated by the devil’s spawn, who’s been switched at birth and would rather play with friends and frogs than ride with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It’s the most amusing take on the end of the world you’ll ever see, and is almost worth the price of Amazon Prime alone.
Thousands Sign Petition to Have Amazon’s GOOD OMENS Removed…From Netflix
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. More than 20,000 apparently confused Christians signed a petition calling for Netflix to cancel my favorite new fantasy series Good Omens, unaware that the adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 satirical sci-fi novel, runs on Amazon Prime, not Netflix.
The petition signers said they were against the show’s perceived attempts “to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable,” writing, “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil.” They also don’t like the fact that God is voiced by a woman (Frances McDormand).
The two entertainment behemoths are taking the petition in stride. Tweeted Netflix: “ok we promise not to make any more.”
To which Amazon responded, “Hey @netflix, we’ll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens.”
Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson to Host Extreme Home Makeover
Not only do I love him on the show, but after sitting at his table one night at the Critics Choice Awards and swapping quips, I’m an all around big fan of Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson. So I was thrilled to hear that HGTV has signed him on as the new host of their Extreme Makeover: Home Edition reboot.
Jane Latman, President, HGTV has this to say about him: “Jesse’s a funny guy, with a warm, caring nature who will help us find the humor and joy in every situation.” Produced by Endemol Shine North. America, the show will debut in 2020.
You Can Rent the Gorgeous Reese Witherspoon House in BIG LITTLE LIES
Even though all the action in HBO’s Big Little Lies takes place on the Monterey Peninsula, they shoot a lot of the domestic interiors in Malibu. The home Reese Witherspoon’s feisty character Madeline Martha Mackenzie character lives in is located on Broad Beach, and is actually available for short term rental for $3,000-$5,000 per night, and long term rental for from $70,000-$100,000 per month.

Fabulous Music Movies to Watch Now and Later
Film expert Staci Layne Wilson has come up with a short list of rock docs about some of your favorite music icons. A few, like Netflix Original’s Rolling Thunder Revue, (subtitled A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese) you can tune into just as soon as you finish reading this.
Others, like rock docs on David Crosby, the Rolling Stones’ Bill Wyman, and The Ventures, you might have to wait a few minutes before viewing them on the small screen. But definitely put them on your radar. Get more info here.
First Look at LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE
Just when you think you can’t get enough of Reese Witherspoon in HBO’s Emmy winning drama series Big Little Lies, Hulu releases a first look at Reese in another domestic lighting rod role, Little Fires Everywhere, based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller.
Little Fires Everywhere follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.
The cast also includes Kerry Washington, Rosemarie DeWitt, Joshua Jackson and more. Too bad we have to wait until 2020 to see it!
WHEN THEY SEE US — You Absolutely Positively MUST WATCH This!
Yesterday I attended one of the most gut wrenching presentations I’ve ever seen. Oprah Winfrey and director Ava DuVernay lead a panel discussion on the absolute MUST SEE four part limited series, When They See Us on Netflix, which should be required viewing for, well…everyone.
When They See Us is based on a true story of the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. It focuses on the five teenagers from Harlem — Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series spans 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.
Oprah lead the discussion with actors and producers of the series, but also with the five gentleman featured in the film. It has heartrending. Thank heavens they made a special of the event so you can see it too. The full special, Oprah Winfrey Presents When They See Us Now premiers June 12 at 10:00 pm on OWN and Netflix.

An hour-long, highlights version of the show will be which will be telecast on VH1 TONIGHT (Sunday, June 9), at 11pm ET/10pm CT. The Good Place No More
Bad news for network comedy fans: the upcoming fourth season of The Good Place will be its last. “I didn’t feel like it needed to be definitive but I needed to have a sense of how long I thought the idea could sustain itself. I came to the conclusion pretty quickly that it was four seasons,” series creator Mike Schur told The Hollywood Reporter. Get more details here.
The Shocking Results of the Critics Choice Real TV Awards
I know all of your are on the edge of your seats, breathlessly awaiting to find out about the winners of the inaugural Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards, held live at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
We all worked really hard on this show, and I think in the end many shows that were truly worthy won awards. My boys the Property Brothers picked up a statuette, for example, and James Cordon won two. But my girl Marie Kondo did not win. Sigh. And Dr. Pimple Popper? Don’t get me started.
