So Mesmerizing You’ll Dream About It — HBO’s YEARS AND YEARS
Talk about compelling television! HBO’s limited series Years and Years is one of the best shows I’ve seen — ever. It follows a British family’s endurance of the next 15 years, starting in 2019 and hurtling us through technological advances, politics, social dynamics and more, all driven by a rich and remarkable score that you won’t be able to get out of your head.
The series, starring Emma Thompson as a shady politician and a wildly talented British cast, has been described as “Black Mirror” meets “This Is Us,” in my mind combining the absolute best elements of both. There are only six episodes, and it can currently be found On Demand and on HBO Go. I’m still having dreams influenced by it!

The new series, Why Women Kill, a darkly comedic drama created by Marc Cherry (Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids) and starring Lucy Liu, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, looks so yummy you could eat it with a spoon.
The series glitzily details the lives of three women living in the same house, in three different decades: a housewife in the ’60s, a socialite in the ’80s and a lawyer in 2018, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal… has not. Take a look: It premieres Aug. 15.

At Last, the Last HOMELAND and Other Showtime Season Premieres
We had to wait nearly two years for the eighth and final season of Homeland, because they wanted to get everything right, according to a network rep. Initially expected to launch in June, the spy drama’s premiere was bumped to fall 2019 and is now slated for Sunday, February 9…for now.
Meanwhile, season ten of Shameless launches Sunday, November 3 at 9p, picking up six months after last season’s finale, followed by season two of Jim Carrey’s Kidding at 10p. Season seven of Ray Donovan premieres in its new slot Sunday, November 17 at 8p. That’s awfully early for the hard stuff.

Really, I’ll watch just about anything Blake Livey shows up in, and she’s currently got two series in development, one set in New York with a “fashion component.” Amazon has a first look deal for those, and also with Connie Britton (Nashville) and Forest Whitaker. Life Is Still So Bright in America for Rita Moreno
TV genius Norman Lear and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda are getting together to make a documentary with the working title of Rita Moreno: The Girl Who Decided to Go For It for PBS. The film will feature interviews with Moreno, Lear, Miranda, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Morgan Freeman, Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria, Justina Machado, Terrence McNally and Chita Rivera.
“How I wish my Puerto Rican mother were alive to see this: her child’s story being celebrated by the likes of American Masters,” said Moreno. “It is not something she or I could ever have imagined.” This is a Must See.

THE BACHELOR is Coming to a Theater Near You
Because some folks can never get enough of Bachelor Nation, ABC is sending the show on the road. The Bachelor Live on Stage, hosted by favorite Bachelor Ben Higgins, is touted as fitting an entire season of “Bachelor” drama into one evening, giving members of the audience the opportunity to find love in their own community, complete with a rose ceremony.
“Each stage show will introduce an eligible hometown bachelor to local ladies from the audience searching for a chance at love. Along with the audience, Ben will guide the bachelor in his journey to find love, from the first impression rose to group date challenges and the coveted one-on-ones,” according to the press release. “The Bachelor Live on Stage has something for everyone, whether you’re looking to find love or just want to enjoy the drama of the evening.” Sure—why not?

Too Much YOUNGER?
I was all about TV Land’s Younger during the first couple of seasons— Sutton Foster stars as Liza Miller, a 40-years-old divorcee poses as a 20-something to get a job at a NYC publishing company. Cute premise, but now that the seventh season has been announced, is everyone ignoring the fact that it’s a lot more of a stretch for Foster, 44, to still be playing someone 20 years ahem, younger?
Also, in an effort to appear young and hip and fresh, they spend a good deal of their half hour episode time promoting the show’s social media platforms. The smugness in assuming everyone wants to follow them everywhere is getting old. Oh, I’ll still watch. But I’m hoping, for everyone’s sake, that Younger reaches its ultimate age limit during Season 7.
