How’s this for a happy new year? Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network is finally releasing content, starting with the return of the designing duo on Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. The first four episodes of the new season will air on Discovery+ beginning Friday, January 29, 2021, with new episodes available weekly through February 19. Additionally, there’s a full slate of Magnolia Network Preview content available on Discovery+ beginning Monday, January 4th 2021. Just what we need, exactly when we need it!
Time to Ty One On Again
Long before the Property Brothers became the reining renovation hunks, Ty Pennington ruled supreme, first on Trading Spaces, then on Extreme Home Makeover. Now he’s back with his own show on HGTV called Ty Breaker, in which he will help conflicted homeowners decide whether to overhaul their current home or renovate a different property to suit their needs. It premieres Monday, Jan. 11, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
LA Law Goes Back Into Practice
ABC is developing a sequel to L.A. Law, with non-other than Blair Underwood coming back to continue his role as attorney Jonathan Rollins. He’ll also be executive producing the sequel. For those of you too young to remember, the series was created by the late Steven Bochco and Terry Louise Fisher, and was a huge hit on NBC between 1986 and 1994. It won a whopping four Emmys for outstanding drama series.
Samuel L. Jackson — Yet Another Big Actor Goes Small Screen
Apple TV has lured yet another A-Lister to take a bite out of the small screen, getting Samuel L. Jackson to sign on to a six-episode limited series called The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray, based on a novel by Walter Mosley, who will also write the script. The plot involves a a 91-year-old man (Jackson) who suffers from dementia, but briefly regain his memories and uses his brief moments of lucidity to find the truth behind his nephew’s death.
Is ‘All My Children’ Ready for Primetime?
Since primetime network TV seems to be getting soapier by the minute, why not make a primetime version of a hit daytime soap? Such will be the case as ABC develops Pine Valley, a drama occurring in the same fictional town as All My Children. The series would would revolve around a young journalist who comes to Pine Valley to expose the town’s dark and murderous history — only to become entangled in the longstanding feud between the Kane and Santos families. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, who both starred for several years on All My Children, are among the executive producers.
Little House on the Prairie Gets a Renovation
In the spirit of advancing the TV trend of making everything old new again, Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content are teaming up to do a reboot of Little House on the Prairie. That’s right, the series loosely based on Laura Ingells Wilder’s books about growing up in Wisconsin, Kansas and Minnesota in the 1870s and 1880s, starring Michael Landon (who also directed more than 80 episodes), Melissa Gilbert, Karen Grassle and Melissa Sue Anderson seems to be coming back. It will, of course, have a fresh cast, of which there is no word yet. Hey, it was a hit on NBC from 1974-83, so who knows? It may be a hit again.
New Topher Grace Show — Yes? No? Maybe So?
Topher Grace is returning to network TV, in Home Economics, a single-camera comedy that centers on three siblings — one a member of the one percent, one middle class, and one struggling to make ends meet. Grace will play the middle (in both age and economic status) sibling and also serve as an executive producer. The series is set to air on ABC in the spring of 2021. We say welcome back!
Taika Waititi Moves to TV
Get ready for a new comedy series about Native American teenagers from favored director Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok). FX has given a green light to Reservation Dogs, which follows a group of four Native teenagers in rural Oklahoma who spend their days committing crime, as well as fighting it. The Good Wife on the Morning Show
Just when you think the award winning cast of Apple TV’s Morning Show can’t get any better, they add Good Wife star Julianna Margulies to the mix. She can hold her own against Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in season two, playing Laura Peterson, a news anchor at the fictional UBA network. Remember, you get a free subscription to Apple TV with any Apple purchase.
Property Brothers’ Celebrity IOU Returns With Zooey Deschanel
Get ready to set your DVR: HGTV’s Celebrity IOU with the Property Brothers returns Monday, Dec. 14, at 9 p.m. ET/PT with award winning actress, producer and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel giving her best friend since childhood a life-changing renovation. This is the kick-off to the second season of the latest Property Brothers series, and it promises to be as good as the first.

The special will feature Carey and a star-studded lineup of surprise guest appearances, combining music, dance and animation in a heartwarming story that (hopefully) “brings the world together.” It premieres globally on December 4 on Apple TV+.
