Looks like there has to be a celebrity version of everything, right? ABC has just ordered a full season of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. This one will air on primetime and will feature Pat Sajak and Vanna White hosting episodes with celebrity contestants competing for a $1 million cash prize that will then be donated to charity. Now the question is, will Sajak or White have a future in politics?

Apple TV pulls no punches when it comes to star power and talent. The streamer’s latest workplace drama, Severance, already had recruited Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette and John Turturro to it’s roster, and now Oscar winner Christopher Walken has been added to the cast. This is the first time Walken will be a series regular on a TV series. He’ll play Burt, the head of optics and design at Lumen Industries, a company that claims to take work-life balance to the next level. Scott stars as Mark, an employee with a shady past, and Arquette is Mark’s boss. Turturro is a long-time employee of the company.

A Grease prequel series looks like it’s sliding towards production, being developed at ViacomCBS’s streaming platform Paramount+. Set at the much revered musical’s Rydell High, it will be called Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and will feature how Sandy, Rizzo, Jan, Marty and Frenchy came together and changed Rydell forever.

Ice-T, the Law & Order: SVU star and rapper is hosting a syndicated legal show called The Mediator, a half-hour daytime series will have a four-week trial on some of the Fox-owned stations, including the biggies in New York and Los Angeles, in March 2021. In each episode, Ice-T will hear arguments from two parties involved in a civil dispute. He’ll then consult with experts and give them recommendations. “I think my opinions are rooted in facts and fairness so I know I can help these people,” said Ice-T. Should Judge Judy be looking over her shoulder?

As with most things, the pandemic is monkeying with the CBS TV schedule. The network just announced that instead of the usual 24-episode seasons its shows usually run, dramas Blue Bloods, Bull, Magnum P.I., NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans and SEAL Team will each run only 16 episodes this season. NCIS: Los Angeles and comedy The Neighborhood will run 18 episodes. What the programming holes will be filled with is anyone’s guess at the moment.

Oh so disappointed to hear that Netflix is saying goodbye to Away. The streamer canceled the series that starred Hilary Swank as an astronaut leading an international space team, the first to land on Mars mission. It won’t make it past its first, stellar season. Although Away did well in ratings, it apparently cost quite a bit to produce, and that had to be considered. The first and only season is still worth watching if you haven’t seen it.

A Fried Green Tomatoes TV series starring Reba McEntire? Yes please! And to make it even more delicious, TV icon Norman Lear is behind it for NBC, so you’ll be able to watch it without worrying about streaming of cable channel subscriptions. The show involves the descendants of the novel, with McEntire staring as present-day Idgie Threadgoode, who returns to Whistle Stop after a decade away and is wrestling with a changed town, estranged daughter, faltering cafe and life-changing secret. But wait…there’s more! Fannie Flagg, the author of the original novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and co-writer of the hit 1991 film, will executive produce the TV show, along with Lear. We’ll keep you posted on further casting and a projected premiere date.

This is the best reason ever to subscribe to streamer HBO MAX! Beartown, by Fredrik Backman (one of my all time favorite novels) is coming to HBO Max in the forma of a five-episode drama series produced in Sweden. In case you haven’t read it yet, it revolves around a small-town Swedish junior ice-hockey team having a shot at winning the national semi-finals, with all the dreams of the locals resting on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys. This heavy burden becomes the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Even more brilliant than Backman’s A Man Called Ove. One more series to look forward to in 2021.
