Aloha New NCIS Spin-off
Because you can never have enough NCIS, CBS is working on another spin-off of its incredibly successful franchise, the latest being set in Hawaii according to The Hollywood Reporter. Add that to NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Los Angeles and the flagship show, NCIS, the longest running and most expensive show on the network.
You Can Already See These Five Best Films on the Small Screen
I’ve chosen my five favorite films of the year, and as of Friday, Feb. 19, they’ll all be on streamers, so you can see them all on the small screen. Here’s where: Nomadland (Hulu), News of the World (for rent on Amazon, Vudu, Apple TV, Google Play and Fandango Now), Emma (Amazon Prime), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix), One Night in Miami (Amazon Prime).
Whac-a-Mole on TV
In a world where every popular game gets a TV or movie treatment, iconic arcade game Whac-A-Mole is being developed into a TV reality competition series by toymaker Mattel and Fremantle (American Idol, America’s Got Talent). The game show will feature an elimination competition in which opposing teams face in challenges that include a life-sized Whac-A-Mole, races and obstacle courses, of course with surprising twists. The big question is, which A-List star will condescend to host?
We Have a Date for Beartown!
You may already be aware of how much I (and the rest of the literate world) love Fredrik Backman’s novel Beartown, so you’ll understand why we’re over the moon to receive the news that the five-episode Swedish-language limited drama series derived from the book debuts MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22 (9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The Latest Nominations for the 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) released it’s film nominees for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards, so set your schedule to see the winners announced LIVE on The CW on Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 7-10pm ET/PT. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show will be an in-person/virtual hybrid, with host Taye Diggs and some of the evening’s presenters filming from a stage in Los Angeles, and nominees appearing remotely from various locations around the world.
A Second Helping of Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs?
Woo Hoo! Dr. Frasier Crane could soon be back in practice. The Hollywood Reporter’s Rick Porter writes that a revival of Emmy-winning comedy Frasier is being considered for Paramount+, which will take over CBS All Access in March. Kelsey Grammer is thought to be on board, but there’s no word yet about the former cast dream team consisting of David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin and Jane Leeves. (John Mahoney passed in 2018). We’ll keep you posted.
Going Back to Wakanda
Let’s here it for Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who, as part of a his five-year deal with Disney TV, is developing a Wakanda-based Disney+ series! He’ll also be working on other shows having to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for now, we’re just excited to go back to Wakanda. Really hoping to see some of the strong women from the film rocking the show.
Dr. Anthony Fauci — Too Soon? I Think Not
We can’t help but think the Dr. Anthony Fauci story is far from finished, still, we’ll be interested in seeing National Geographic Documentary Films’ documentary feature on the man they’re calling “America’s Doctor.” Especially since Oscar-winner Dan Cogan (Icarus) and nominee Liz Garbus (What Happened, Miss Simone?) are working on it. They promise interviews with President George W. Bush, Bill Gates, Bono and AIDS activists and organizers, family, friends and former patients.

Additional New Magnolia Shows on Discovery+
Sorry. I just can’t help myself. So thrilled that Discovery+ is running Magnolia Network content before the Chip and Jo channel launches that I absolutely, positively, must share the latest. Starting Friday, Feb. 5, new Magnolia Network original content will debut weekly throughout the month of February.
In addition to the three previously-announced episodes of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, there will be a new special; Breaking New Ground: Expanding the Silos. Also, new installments of Andrew Zimmern’s Family Dinner and the full first season of Home on the Road with Johnnyswim, in addition to single-episode previews from Home Work, Mind for Design, Zoë Bakes and Inn the Works.
More Haute Dog on the HBO Max Menu
Here’s something to bark about — HBO Max is airing new episodes of their gorgeous grooming show Haute Dog Thursday, February 4. Each episode of the Max Original showfeatures three groomers facing off in head-to-tail creative contests for the title of “Best in Show” and a $10,000 prize. Tasked with turning their K-9s into K-10s, the series introduces top pet stylists from across the country compete in challenges with out-of-the-box themes – from “royalty” and “fairy tales” to “safari” and “superheroes.” I just can’t get enough!
