Seems like TV’s favorite reno couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, have been off the tube forever, doesn’t it? As you know, they’ve been busy  cultivating their own new Magnolia / Discovery network, which is reported to be sliding into the FYI network space. They just announced that the newly renovated channel will launch October 4. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav said they’re developing “fantastic” new content for the platform. Can’t wait to see what Chip and Jo hath wrought.

If Netflix isn’t your jam but Breaking Bad is, AMC is airing El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (about whatever happened to Jesse Pinkman) on Sunday, February 16 at 8pm. Leading up to that, AMC will be showing a Breaking Bad marathon, featuring all episodes of the five-season series, staring Sunday, January 19 at 4 pm and running over five consecutive Sundays.

Then, the fifth season of Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul returns Sunday, February 23 at 10 pm on AMC. And it’s just been announced that Season Five is the penultimate. Better Call Saul will come to a close with a 13-episode sixth and final season in 2021.

Fans of Liane Moriarity’s Big Little Lies are not, as a whole, as pleased with the author’s more recent novel Nine Perfect Strangers, about a bizarre health retreat. Buy maybe the addition of Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman to the cast will give Hulu’s latest limited series that little extra something the book lacked.  It’s a good sign that McCarthy and Kidman are serving as executive producers, and that it’s coming from David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories, Kidman’s Blossom Films and Endeavor Content.

Dwayne Johnson seems to be everywhere these days, having just announced that he’s starring in the new NBC comedy series Young Rock, which is, of course, inspired by his life. He’ll appear in each of the first 11 episodes, and they’ll see how the show goes from there. Crossing our fingers that it’s as good as Young Sheldon. It will be if former Fresh Off the Boat showrunner Nahnatchka Khan has anything to say about it—she’s running the show.

You’ll doubtless want to record this, since you’ll be watching the 25th Annual Critics Choice Awards on the CW Sunday, Jan 12. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this new, eight-episode mini series adapted from Sandition, based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, airing Sunday on PBS. Screenwriter Andrew Davies, who has adapted Pride and Prejudice and other Austen favorites, promises a sexy take on it.

The excitement mounts, as The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announces today the star-studded line up of presenters who will take the stage during the 25^th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. Keegan-Michael Key will be on hand to recognize Eddie Murphy with the Critics’ Choice Lifetime Achievement Award and Ted Danson will present Kristen Bell with the #SeeHer Award.

Additional stars from some of this year’s favorite films and television shows who will present throughout the evening include Kate Beckinsale, Alison Brie, Kelly Clarkson, Brian Cox, Adam Devine, Sara Gilbert, Walton Goggins, Lucy Hale, Chris Hardwick, Anne Hathaway, Sam Heughan, Nick Kroll, Eugene Levy, John Lithgow, Sebastian Maniscalco, Caleb McLaughlin, Kennedy McMann, Seth Meyers, Ashleigh Murray, Niecy Nash, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, Lupita Nyong’o, Catherine O’Hara, Edi Patterson, Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, JB Smoove, Bradley Whitford, and Scott Wolf. Fear not, Joaquin! The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced today that it will serve only plant-based food during the 25^th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony.  Hoping to shine a light on sustainability and the ever-growing climate crisis our world is facing, the CCA will provide delicious plant-based foods for its guests, including me, and hundreds of the world’s biggest film and television stars.

Everyone in the Barker Hangar will be able to choose from vegetarian tacos and burritos from Baja Fresh® or plant-based burgers from The Counter® served hot and fresh during the show.  There will even be vegan desserts from Pinkberry® and Cold Stone Creamery®. Additional support will be provided by FIJI Water and François Borgel.

Because I’m all about bringing you everything Property Brothers, the latest says that after signing Drew and Jonathan Scott to a multi-year talent deal extension in December, HGTV and parent company Discovery, Inc. have invested in the duo’s online shopping platform. “We started Casaza to make shopping for premium items for your home a fun, content-driven experience,” said Drew. Now they have serious financial backing behind them.
