Netflix Space Force — Best Trailer Ever! Can’t Wait for the Series
Do I smell Emmys, Critics Choice Awards and hours of fabulous entertainment? Space Force is about decorated pilot Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) who is tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry. From co-creators Carell and Greg Daniels (The Office), Space Force also stars John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Ben Schwartz, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang and Noah Emmerich, among others you’ll know and love. Premiering on Netflix May 29.

American Idol Final = MUST SEE TV on Sunday
Even if you haven’t been following American Idol this season (and I haven’t), Sunday night’s finale is worth watching. This is no, live, sing from your couch on Zoom production. They’re going ALL out, dealing with insane logistics to bring you the most professional show possible under the circumstances. For example, the seven finalists were each shipped a confetti canon, and have live satellite trucks parked in front of their houses, just in case they win, and they’ve been through countless FaceTime hours with producers, learning how to do their own hair, makeup, wardrobe, and set up the light and camera kits they’ve been sent. Here’s a Switch — A BIG Movie Being Release Sooner Rather Than Later
Disney+ is fast tracking the premiere of the filmed version of Broadway’s Hamilton. Viewers will be able to watch the musical starting July 3, over a year earlier than planned. The film was originally slated to hit theaters on October 15, 2021. “In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” said Robert Iger, Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company. Lin-Manuel Miranda said he was “grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down.” Personally, I’m thrilled because our Hamilton tickets at the Panteges have been refunded and the performance canceled.
Can Selena Gomez Cook? We’ll Find Out
Now that she’s got a cool new kitchen in the Tom Petty house, it seems Selena Gomez is dying to show it off. HBO Max is developing a 10-episode cooking series with Gomez, which grew out of her spending much more time in the kitchen during the coronavirus pandemic. “Blending her determination with top-tier culinary artists is sure to entertain and educate viewers about something we’re all trying to work through, ” said HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey.

If you’re looking for something to do May 18-22, (and who isn’t?) Nat Geo WILD is going to the dogs, and is ready, willing and able to take you along. They’re throwing a weekday-long marathon of shows dedicated to all things canine. Dog whisperer Cesar Millan will star in the stunt the network is calling “Sit, Stay, Dogs All Day.” Dog lovers unite on the couch!
To Make Mom Laugh on Mother’s Day
A little counter-programming for the Disney Sing-along: NBC, Entertainment Studios and Funny Or Die are teaming up for a two-hour comedy special on Mom’s Day, Sunday May 10 at 7:00 pm. Called the Feeding America Comedy Festival, and raising money for the hunger-relief organization, it will have pre-recorded segments from comedy greats like Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Whitney Cummings, Whoopi Goldberg, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin James, Jim Jefferies, Jamie Kennedy, Keegan-Michael Key, George Lopez, Marc Maron, Eddie Murphy, Caroline Rhea, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, JB Smoove, Kenan Thompson and Marlon Wayans.
Tiger King — It Had to Be Nicholas Cage or Woody Harrelson
Nicolas Cage is the one who will star in and executive produce the limited scripted series about Tiger King’s Joe Exotic. This project is also based on based on the Texas Monthly article about the jailed zookeeper, but is completely distinct from the hit Netflix docuseries that everyone and their dog has watched by now. Let’s just say I’m not on the edge of my seat waiting for it to air.
