It appears that not only is Chalize Theron’s Old Guard an outrageously entertaining film and an overwhelming viewer magnate, but it’s also a tour de force for female, filmmakers, as 85 percent of the post production team was made up of women! If you’re confused by all the big new streaming services launching recently, don’t worry. So are we. Especially when we see numbers like NBCUniversal’s Peacock reaching 10 million sign-ups, and  AT&T’s WarnerMedia reporting its streaming service, HBO Max, attracting attracted 4.1 million subscribers after its first month. In comparison, Disney’s Disney+ scored 10 million subscribers in its first day. Remember that Disney+ and HBO Max are pay services, while Peacock is available for free to millions of cable TV customers.  HollywoodReporter.com spells it out for you.

Remember how Brad Pitt brought down the proverbial house when he played Dr. Anthony Fauci on SNL?  Pitt earned an Emmy nod for that. Also of note: five actors scored nominations for roles in more than one show: Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel); Jason Bateman (Ozark, The Outsider); Maya Rudolph (SNL, The Good Place, Big Mouth); Wanda Sykes (Crank Yankers, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel); and Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian) And BTW, women garnered a record one third of directing nominations (16 out of 48).

Congratulations to composer Alan Menken became the 16th person ever to achieve EGOT status, joining the elite group who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. He won his first Emmy Sunday for best original song in Disney Channel’s Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, in the children’s, young adult or animated program category. Menken also has eight Oscars for songs and scores from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas. In addition, he has 11 Grammys and a Tony for best original score for Newsies.

Now that she’s no longer in with the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills crowd, Lisa Vanderpump is far from idle. Not only is her spin-off reality series Vanderpump Rules alive and well at Bravo, but there’s word of anther new series, Vanderpump Dogs, that will air in NBCU streaming service Peacock. We’re assuming the new show will be about be about Vanderpump Dogs, the foundation whose mission is to work “on both domestic and international fronts to help create a better world for dogs.”  It’s also the name of Vanderpump’s Los Angeles dog rescue and adoption facility. Frankie will watch!

The ever fabulous Taraji P. Henson just signed a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox Television to develop an Empire spin-off, featuring (who else?) but her indomitable character Cookie.  Empire co-creator Danny Strong is involved, as is Lee Daniels, who will serve as a non-writing executive producer with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Samie Falvey.

Looks like uber producer/creator Ava DuVernay is diving deeper into reality TV, as NBC has just ordered 10 episodes of her new unscripted series Home Sweet Home. Described as a “social experiment,” the series follows families as they switch homes with others from different backgrounds. I’ll watch! Find out more on HollywoodReporter.com.
