Hey All You Cats and Kittens! Kate McKinnon is Carol!
Because we just can’t seem to get enough of Joe Exotic, yet another limited series about the jailed Lion King from the South has been announced. We’re actually looking forward to this one, because it’s executive produced by Kate McKinnon, who will also star as Carol Baskin. NBCU television and streaming divisions have given the production a straight to series order. The project will roll out across NBC’s streaming service Peacock, as well as basic cable network USA.
We’ll Say ‘I Do’ to This New Indian Matchmaking Comedy
Can’t get enough of Indian Matchmaking on Netflix? The subject is ready for network prime-time, as ABC is developing a matchmaking comedy from Nisha Ganatra, which will center on the most successful matchmaking service in Little India, run by a romantic single girl and her more pragmatic mom.

It’s All in the Modern Family
Sarah Hyland from Modern Family has already booked her next gig — the lead in a multi-camera comedy series called Yours, Mine and Paul’s, in development at ABC. It’s from Desert Whale Productions, the newly launched production company of fellow Modern Family alumnus Ty Burrell. Burell will executive produce, while Hyland will star as Lauren, an impulsive millennial who agrees to be a surrogate for her best friend Paul, and his husband Xander – then Paul dies. Seth MacFarlane + Chadwick Boseman = Great TV
Seth MacFarlane and Chadwick Boseman have teamed up for Little Rock Nine limited series. The project is based on Carlotta Walls LaNier’s memoir A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High. Walls LaNier was the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine, the black students who attended all-white Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas after the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision.
A Great Princess Diana Choice
Once Netflix announced plans for six full seasons of universally acclaimed TV series The Crown, speculation immediately began about who would play whom in the last two seasons. Little by little we found out that Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip and while we still don’t know who will play Prince Charles, it was just announced that the incandescent Elizabeth Debiki will play Princess Diana. In my not so humble opinion, it would have been impossible to make a better choice.
There are Great Stars Coming — Between the World and Me
It’s just been announced that an all-star list of performers has come onboard for HBO’s adaptation of stage show Between the World and Me, based on the bestseller by journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates. The roster includes Angela Bassett, Oprah Winfrey, Phylicia Rashad, Courtney B. Vance and Susan Kelechi Watson, to name just a few. But wait! There’s more! Who’s Winning the Battle of the Streamers?
And the winner is… Netflix, according to the latest Nielsen figures. Netflix accounted for 34% of streaming time in the most recent ratings release that measured viewing habits during the second quarter of the year. YouTube ranked second, at 20%. Hulu (which by the way, is controlled by Disney) was third at 11%. Amazon Prime was fourth at 8%, and Disney+ was 5th, with 4 percent. Streaming accounted for a surprising 25% of total TV usage. I thought it would have been higher.
Look for a Fresher Prince of Bel-Air
The rumors are true, apparently. There’s a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air drama (not comedy) series on the horizon. It’s based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube trailer of an intended movie. Will Smith, Benny Medina and Quincy Jones are involved, and while the it’s not attached to any streamers yet, expect to see at least Netflix, Amazon and maybe HBO Max bidding for it.
Fargo Season 4 Revealed — Best TV Trailer Ever!
Oh boy are we in for a treat! Fargo Season 4 was originally slated to premiere Spring 2020 but the Coronavirus pandemic halted production until late August. Now we know it will premiere Sunday, September 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX, and the next day on FX on Hulu. The 11-episode season will feature a new episode each subsequent week. It stars Chris Rock, and we’ll also see favorites including Jason Schwartzman, Salvatore Esposito, Rodney Jones, Ben Whishaw, Timothy Olyphant, Jessie Buckley and Jeremy Harris. A League of Their Own Series Sounds Like a Homerun
What is generally acknowledged as one of the best sports movies of all time, A League of Their Own, is now getting the series treatment at Amazon. Take me out to that ballgame! Just like the 1992 Penny Marshall classic, the period series will tell the story of the women’s baseball league, and will explore race, sexuality and more. The series is co-created, executive produced by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and she’ll also star.
Kerry Washington’s Latest
Multi-Emmy nominee Kerry Washington is red hot these days, as she’s just renewed and expanded her overall deal with ABC Studios. That means Washington’s Simpson Street production company has a three year contract to develop TV projects for broadcast, cable and streaming. She’s currently developing a drama for Hulu based on Lillian Li’s novel Number One Chinese Restaurant. Can’t wait for that one!
