Showtime is bringing back their killer hit for at least one more, limited season. The 10-episode new Dexter will star Michael C. Hall again, and will be a continuation of the eight-season series, which, as fans will remember, ended with Dexter going into self-imposed exile as a lumberjack in the Pacific Northwest. They’re shooting for a Fall 2021 premiere.

Gerard Butler’s thriller Greenland will now skip U.S. theater release and go straight to premium video-on-demand, asking  $19.99 a 48 hour rental, starting Dec. 18. It’s already been released in theaters in 24 territories outside of the U.S. and done quite well, but distributor STX has decided that, with continued cinema closers in major markets like New York and Los Angeles, Greenland will likely reach more viewers on the small screen.

+HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel is taking shape, with  star Paddy Considine (The Outsider) cast to star in the series called House of the Dragon. It will be based on Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. Set 300 years before the best loved fantasy drama series that recently concluded, it tells the tale of House Targaryen. Considine will star as King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen. Find out more at The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently I’m not the only one who had an adverse reaction to Darren Star’s latest series Emily in Paris on Netflix. According to the Hollywood Reporter, most French critics are up in arms about the negative cliches and stereotypes the show drags out at every opportunity. I have issues with that as well, but also with the fact that the show makes the adorable Lily Collins look insanely stupid and arrogant, as a junior advertising executive who knows no French, sent to show a well established luxury fashion firm how to effectively use Instagram. Oh the hubris and inanity of it all! All the gorgeous shoes on Paris cannot make up for that.

But wait! There’s more! Just what the country needs right now — outrageous laughter. And that’s what we’re going to get from Amazon Prime, when it releases Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat 2, the sequel to the 2006 mockumentary Borat, sometime prior to the election. A recent survey by SimpleTexting found that 41% of respondents would rather go without TV, movies, music and podcasts for a month than go without their smartphones. That strikes us as odd, since they’re probably spending the majority of their time watching and listening to those things on their mobile devices. But what really gets my dander up is the the 40% of people who say they’d rather go without their dogs for a month than be without a smartphone for that same period of time. Scandalous! Because the dark Amazon super hero series is doing so well in its second season, a spin-off of The Boys has been announced. It will take place set at America’s only college for young superheroes, run by big bad corporation Vought International. It’s been described as part college show and part Hunger Games and follows the lives of hormonal, competitive super-heroes in training as they vie for the best contracts in the best cities. What could go wrong? Sounds super soapy to me, which could be lots of fun!
