Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate) are total strangers, but when they meet, one thing instantly bonds them: they were both unexpectedly dumped by their respective partners, Anne (Gina Rodriguez) and Noah (Scott Eastwood), on the same weekend. As the saying goes, “misery loves company,” but their commiseration turns into a mission when they see on social media that their exes have happily moved on to new romances, Anne with Logan (Manny Jacinto) and Noah with Ginny (Clark Backo).
Terrified that, in their 30s, they have lost their shot at happily ever after and horrified at the prospect of having to start over, Peter and Emma hatch a desperate plot to win the loves of their lives back. Each will do whatever it takes to put an end to their exes’ new relationships and send them running back to their arms.

When Does Encanto Stream on Disney+ ? How ‘Bout Friday?
Good news for those who are dying to know the answer to the question: When does Encanto stream on Disney+ ? That would be Friday, New Years Eve, to be exact.
That’s right: Disney+ kicks off holiday festivities this Friday, December 24, when Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto launches on the streamer.
In a new featurette, Lin-Manuel Miranda—who wrote eight original songs for the film—teams up with the voice of Mirabel, Stephanie Beatriz, to share insights about several of the film’s songs, including “Dos Oruguitas”—a Critics’ Choice Awards nominee for best original song.
Miranda, who visited Colombia with directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard in 2018, infused the songs with the rhythms, instrumentation and varied styles of the South American country’s music. “Encanto takes place in rural Colombia,” said Miranda, “and the music that comes out of Colombia is so beautiful.”
In the film, Mirabel often reveals her internal struggles and revelations through song. Said Beatriz, “There’s something that clicks inside her where she realizes the wheels are in motion for her to chase down her destiny. I like these heroine songs so much. We go on this major journey with the character and suddenly we know her better from the inside.”
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz).
But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. The film is directed by Jared Bush (co-director Zootopia) and Byron Howard (Zootopia, Tangled), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez), and produced by Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer.
The screenplay is by Castro Smith and Bush. Encanto features original songs by Emmy®, GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana); Germaine Franco (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Little, Tag) composed the original score. Encanto, which opened in U.S. theaters on Nov. 24, launches on Disney+ Dec. 24.

As the countdown to the most enchanting event of the season continues, HBO Max revealed today the official Return to Hogwarts trailer. The Max Original retrospective special is set to premiere on the platform Jan 1. What a great way to ring in the New Year!
Announced last month, the retrospective special, called Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, invites fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson will reunite, together with other esteemed cast members and filmmakers across all eight Harry Potter films. In celebration of the anniversary of the franchise’s first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, this unique television event includes brand new cast discussions, insights from the creative team behind the magic, and comments from creator J.K. Peloton and Ryan Reynolds Clap Back at Sex and the City
Two years ago, Ryan Reynolds’ ad agency Maximum Effort exploded onto the global scene with its ultra-timely “Peloton wife” parody ad. Rather than getting all huffy about it, Peloton hired Maximum Effort to create an ad poking fun at Peloton’s much talked about featured role as a pseudo death cycle in HBO Max’s Sex and the City reboot.
The ad features Chris Noth, who plays Mr. Big, in the original and the sequel series, in a romantic situation courtesy of his Peloton bike. Any oh yes, that is Ryan Reynolds narrating it. It’s really too cool for words. Read more about it on AdWeek.

And Just Like That… Sex and the City is Back
Yeesh! No one was more excited than I was about the return of Charlotte, Carrie and Miranda in the Sex and the City sequel, And Just Like That on HBO Max. So it was more than a little unnerving to see the girls return as shrill, ridiculously dressed, inappropriate and insecure scatterbrains in the first episodes.
The second episode was just the opposite. It was so unbearably sad I had a hard time getting through it. But if you’re not married to an older man whom you love passionately, unreservedly and unapologetically like Carrie and I are (spoiler alert: were), you might not find it so darkly emotional.
Fingers crossed they’ll find a better balance as the season progresses. The trailer certainly seems to indicate they will…

Catch the Celebration of Latino Cinema
The Critics Choice Association, of which I am a humble member, just launched a new annual event, The Celebration of Latino Cinema, and was the inaugural event ever a hit! There were too many highlights to mention here, but just to name a few, Rita Moreno received the Icon Award, presented to her by Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan. Lin-Manuel Miranda received the Visionary Award from Robin de Jesús. Reinaldo Marcus Green accepted the Director Award for his film King Richard, and it was presented by King Richard star Aunjanue Ellis. Seriously, it brought some of us to tears!

Shatner is Space Special
No really — this time he’s in space for real. Prime Video and William Shatner just announced that Shatner in Space, a one-hour special, will premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, December 15 in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The special details the events before, during, and after Shatner’s life-changing flight—which made him the oldest person to ever travel to the cosmos—and the growing friendship between the Star Trek icon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, whose dreams of space travel, like many, were inspired by the original Star Trek series.
