I don’t know why the completely charming and engaging The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society wasn’t released theatrically in the US, as it was in Great Britain, France and a few other countries. Gracefully directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Enchanted April), it’s certainly good enough.

But theater owners’ loss is our gain, as we don’t have to go out, fight traffic and look for a parking space.  We can watch it in the comfort of our own homes on Netflix.

You can’t help but kvell watching this adaptation of the bestselling novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I know the well-read among you were moved by the book—I certainly was. And the well-watched among you will enjoy seeing Downton Abby stars including the entrancing Lily James, Jessica Brown Findlay, Matthew Goode and Penelope Wilton. It’s like the best of all BBC America shows all rolled up into one fine, streamable package.

Give me historical fiction or give me death, in books, on television or at that cineplex. I absolutely cannot wait for this one, an anthology series called The Romanoffs, which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video Friday, October 12

The Romanoffs is created, written, directed and executive produced by nine-time Emmy award winner Matthew Weiner of Mad Men fame, and features eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. Each story takes place in a new location with a new cast. The first episode, “The Violet Hour’ stars Marthe Keller, Aaron Eckhart, Ines Melab and Louise Bourgoin and the second story, “The Royal We,” stars Corey Stoll, Kerry Bishe, Janet Montgomery and Noah Wyle.

The mad divorcee of the Upper West Side is back! The Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, returns for another season with Golden Globe winner Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Midge Maisel, Golden Globe winner and three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as Midge’s father Abe Weissman and Alex Borstein (Family Guy) as Susie Myerson.

The Critics Choice award winner is written and executive produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and recently garnered 14 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Brosnahan), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Shalhoub), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Borstein). Here’s a first look into The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season two, which will be premiering sometime before the end of the year.

In sort of a mind blowing ’90’s TV mashup, David Schwimmer has been cast as a love interest for Grace (Debra Messing) in the upcoming Season 2 of Will & Grace. Not much is else is known about his arch on the reboot, but NBC has also revealed that Chelsea Hander, Alec Baldwin and Mary McCormack will  guest star in the upcoming season as well. Will & Grace returns Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. And get this: the series has already been renewed for a third season, before the second season even premieres!

Don’t worry, Lance Bass! Maybe HGTV will let you host the series HGTV intends to make about restoring the iconic home. David Zaslov, CEO of HGTV parent company Discovery, said Tuesday on their earnings call, “One of our projects for HGTV will speak to those ‘Brady Bunch’ fans on the call… You may have heard that the house from the iconic series was recently on the market in California. I’m excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore the ‘Brady Bunch’ home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can.” To read more, click here.

• Spin the Wheel—Co-created and executive produced by Justin Timberlake and hosted by Dax Shepard, contestants have the chance to win more than $20 million per episode, but you can bet it won’t be easy. I’ll keep you posted if I see any casting notices.
• The Masked Singer — A celebrity singing competition based on a hit South Korean format. Nick Cannon hosts, with judges and/or coaches Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke. This one is slated to premiere in January 2019.
•  Mental Samurai, hosted and produced by Rob Lowe, this is being described as the first-ever obstacle course for the mind. Watch some brainy eleven-year-old win all the marbles. It’s slated to premiere during the 2018-2019 season.

Oh, to have been at the New York preview screening of  The Spy Who Dumped Me, recently, when  hunky Outlander star Sam Heughan (who also stars in the aforementioned film) made a surprise appearance and did a Q&A before announcing the much-anticipated preview of Outlander Season Four.  The fourth season of will include 13 episodes, based upon Drums of Autumn, the fourth of the eight books in Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling Outlander series. The upcoming season continues the romantic adventures of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Heughan) in America and will premiere this November 2018 on Starz. Additionally, the series has been renewed for two more seasons, taking it through season six. CANNOT wait until November!

Since the iconic house that was used for the Brady Bunch exteriors is in my ‘hood, and one of the first places my out-of-state friends want to see when they come to visit, I’ve got the dirt on this classic TV property.  I also spoke to a number of real estate professionals in the area to see if they thought a collector would buy it and run a profitable AirBnB out of it, or if a developer would snap it up to tear the whole thing down and build a brand, spanking new mansion on the spacious lot. The ABC sitcom, sans Roseanne Barr, will premiere this Fall, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. All your other favorite cast members are reported to be returning. Can they carry it? Time will tell. To be honest, I never really got into the show, but I think I’m one of the few in America who feels that way. Get more info at about it on The Hollywood Reporter.

Elisabeth Shue has been tapped to star in a darkly humorous drama pilot called Constance, from executive producer Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s Team Downey. Shue will play former beauty queen turned small town bureaucrat, Constance Young, whose life is thrown into turmoil after her husband’s mysterious death. Realizing she and her family are on the verge of financial ruin, Constance turns to cooking the books at City Hall, while simultaneously trying to reinvent herself through the hyper-competitive world of direct-sales cosmetics. TNT has got this, and I’m hoping it’s as good and dishy as it sounds.
