THE GRINCH Review — 10-Year-Old Winston Says it’s a Humbug

The Grinch Review
The Grinch is a really bad animated movie version of the Dr. Seuss children’s book, from Illumination, the same company that does the Minions movies. It’s kind of a surprise that it’s just not as good as I hoped it would be.
The mean, green Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) wants to steal the Christmas of Whoville. He had a bad Christmas as a child and now he aims to take Christmas away from everybody else.
The Grinch loves his dog Max, but hates people. How are you capable of loving a dog yet you can’t love even one nice person? My favorite characters were Max the dog, Fred the ox, and Cindy-Lou Who (Cameron Seely). The ox and Max were really cute and Max was very brave and loyal. Cindy-Lou Who tried to help her very busy mom, Donna-Lou Who (Rashida Jones). Also, the Grinch’s gadgets were funny.
The part I really didn’t like was that the narration was all so dumb. I think that the movie was trying too hard to be like the book, but the stuff they wrote just wasn’t as good as Dr. Seuss. The dialogue isn’t funny, either.
I have never seen the television version or the live action movie (with Jim Carrey), so I can’t compare. But this movie has so many chases, it feels like it goes “scene, then chase,” over and over again. It just feels like a bunch of filler, trying to make a whole movie out of a really short book.
The Grinch is a waste of your time and money. If you’re desperate for a good Christmas movie, try Elf or maybe Die Hard instead.
