The Famous Laguna Beach Cliff House is Finally On the Market
For the first time in 50 years, the astonishingly located Laguna Beach cliff house is for sale
Search no further, I’ve found the absolute BEST location in Laguna Beach, CA. This magnificent estate clings to a cliff on Crown Point and overlooks the crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean.
And for the first time since 1968, the three-level home known as Casa Punta de la Corona is on the market, for $10.5 million.
“It’s one of the most beautiful views you’ll ever see. It’s a promontory with 180-degree views of the ocean and a staircase that leads down the cliff to a private beach with no other access,” says Douglas Elliman’s Matt Altman, who’s co-listing the property with his brother, Josh Altman, and Geoff Failla with the McMonigle Group.
Now a new owner of the Laguna Beach cliff house will be able to enjoy the views out to Catalina Island plus the pristine and private beach below.
“It’s priced to sell,” says Altman.
Aside from the spectacular perch, this place may not look like a multimillion-dollar home from the street.
The three-bedroom, four-bath home doesn’t attract undue attention out front, and the interior hasn’t been updated much since it was built in the late ’60s by architect Charles Whitaker.
Some of the original interior features include the elaborately carved dining table and chairs and the 12-foot-high carriage doors, which were hand-carved in Mexico.
And while some might appreciate the unique period details, Failla suspects the 3,121-square-foot home might be a bit snug for today’s deep-pocketed buyers.
“The new owner will probably want to rebuild and add to the square footage and make it even more of a trophy property than it already is,” he says.
Failla notes it’s directly across the water from Seal Rock, which is one of the best snorkeling areas in the country. The orientation of the home offers not only the spectacular ocean views, but also the city lights of Laguna down the coast.
He also told me Crown Point and this home have been painted by many an artist over the decades. A new buyer will likely be able to spot paintings of the remarkable cliffside residence in restaurants and offices throughout town.
It’ll be interesting to see who wears the crown next and what shape the notable home will take.
“It’s a true landmark,” says Failla. “It’s the best development opportunity you’ll find here.”
