Better Call Saul if You Want This Insanely Cool Midcentury Modern
It seems that Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk is popping up in all the right places lately. Not only is the world waiting with bated breath for his smarmy lawyer Saul Goodman spin-off, Better Call Saul on AMC, but he also appeared as a hapless police chief on Fargo, the TV series, and as a level headed brother in Nebraska. Now he’s making an appearance in the real estate market, having listed one of the coolest homes under $3 million.
It’s not that it’s massive or luxurious. It’s humble by Hollywood standards, measuring a mere 2,822 square feet, with three bedrooms and three and a half baths. The place was built in 1950, but it’s the redo Odenkirk, and his talent manager wife Naomi, engaged in since they bought it back in 1998 for $675,454, that has me all agog.
As brilliance would have it, the Odenkirks hired Matthew Weiner’s wife, architect/designer Linda Brettler, to do the update, and the Mad Men vibe must be contagious, because she tricked out the entire pad with swinging 60’s panache that sends me grabbing for my kitten heels and cocktails. We’re talking geometric paneling and a color scheme of yellow, orange, brown and blue. She also added some floor to ceiling glass doors and windows, and a couple of kids rooms with lofts. Outside there are terraces and decks that make the most out of the half-acred hillside loft.
So what are they asking for their super hip home and re-deco efforts? Nearly $2.5 million, $2,499,000 to be exact. Although the Odenkirk’s expect to make a substantial profit, that’s not out of line for the area. See more pics in my gallery at HGTV.com.
