Jackson Galaxy and the Amazing Cat Houses

Hollywood loves a good cat house, as we proved recently by absolutely packing the “Giving Shelter” event to raise funds for FixNation. Fifteen of L.A.’s top architects teamed up with My Cat From Hell‘s Jackson Galaxy to showcase some wildly creative cat shelters that I know my two kitty boyz would go crazy over.Jackson Galaxy and Lisa

Coming in all shapes and sizes, the fan favorite was a virtual feline high rise, and another was a small kitty condo made of a cement block with windows, shelves and a pop-up porch. There were people-sized benches with cat space underneath, and crazily colored creations, because, wouldn’t you know, cats aren’t colorblind after all. Some of the structures looked like upscale sculptures, with the added benefit of being cat friendly. Almost all had places for scratching, pawing, padding and perching so that cats could do what cats do.

I chatted with Jackson Galaxy about his new book, Catification, which shows us how to “merge form and function for cats and humans without sacrificing your aesthetic.” I’d only seen Galaxy’s show once before, when he helped my friend Rick with his difficult cat named “Budha,” but there were throngs of people in attendance at the event who seemed to hang on his every word. It appears that millions of cat lovers are fans of this Galaxy.
