Recording Artists Asked to Pay to Play at Super Bowl
Ever wonder how much they pay artists like Bruno Mars and Aerosmith to put on those spectacular Super Bowl half time shows? It’s pretty common knowledge that the recording artists don’t get paid a penny — they do it for exposure. But what The Wall Street Journal (the god of all newspapers to which I subscribe religiously) recently revealed is that Super Bowl organizers are now requesting that the artists under consideration contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the NFL coffers.
According to that most esteemed of publications, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Cold Play have all been approached about making such deals for the 2015 Super Bowl show. Although the request seems outrageous, since halftime entertainment pulls in more viewers than the game itself and is one of the most watched shows on television, it just might be worth their while.
