What Everybody’s Watching Right Now and Which are My Favorites?
Courtesy of The Dailies newsletter, we’ve got the rundown of what everybody’s watching right now on the major streaming services. Courtesy of moi, we’re telling you which are the most worthwhile.

When you think about it you start to realize that people spend a lot more time at home watching their (relatively) small screens than they do going out to movies. It makes sense—a monthly subscription fee for a streaming service costs about as much as one movie ticket. But when you add in the price of concessions, transport to and from the theater, your companion’s ticket and the added time it takes to get there and/or put on makeup before you go out, the easy hours of entertainment you get from your monthly subscription price seems like a killer deal.
Each week, The Dailies newsletter provides a list of the most watched movies and series on the leading streaming services. Following that, I’m giving you the my top picks for the week. Hey, there’s an almost infinite amount of content out there—a few good recommendations can be invaluable.
What Everybody’s Watching Right Now

Lisa Johnson Mandell’s personal picks:
Movies
As for movies, hands down the pick is Peacock’s Song Sung Blue, the surprisingly entertaining and moving story of a Neil Diamond tribute band. With extraordinary leads like the Oscar nominated Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, it feels like a small movie, but it’s got big heart.
Another of my favorites on the movie list is the Glen Powell comedy/action film The Running Man on Paramount+. Make no mistake, this is not an award-worthy film, but it’s a fun no-brainer to watch while you’re working out, or maybe after a rough day when all you want is to cozy up for some mindless entertainment.
Series
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO)
HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is one of the best shows on the small screen right now. This is a George R R Martin series, set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne. It centers on two unlikely heroes, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his too adorable kid squire Egg, as they adventure through Westeros.
If you can make it through the first episode, which actually shows a tasteless defecation scene you won’t forget, the rest of the episodes are completely smart and charming, and don’t take themselves half as seriously as any of the other Game of Thrones based shows do. Episodes are only 1/2 hour, which is another plus.
Shrinking: (Apple TV+)
Shrinking, Season 3 on Apple TV+ just keeps getting better and better. So far this season, instead of ending each episode with a cliff hanger, episodes close with resolutions on the same thing for the different, flawed by lovable characters. Harrison Ford has never been better as a cranky senior therapist with Parkinsons, and the rest of the cast, which includes Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Ted McGinley and Wendie Malick, couldn’t be more engaging.
