Ridley Scott’s Latest Blockbuster Will Be on TV
TNT has just announced a greenlight for straight to series Raised By Wolves, a serialized sci-fi series from Ridley Scott (The Martian, Blade Runner, Alien: Covenant). This will also mark his television directorial debut with the series.
Raised by Wolves centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.
No talent has been announced yet, but I can already tell you my sci-fi hubby’s going to love this one!
Get a First Look at the Latest From the Amazing Neil Gaiman
I’m always eager to see what’s going on in the extraordinarily creative world of one of my favorite authors/producers, and Neil Gaiman’s latest from Amazon Studios looks like it might be a new high in an already superlative career.
The first teaser trailer for the series adaptation of Good Omens was just released at New York Comic-Con, showing clips from the dark, comedic story set in modern day Britain that centers on the stoic and sensible angel, Aziraphale (played by Martin Sheen) and the suave man-about-town demon, Crowley (played by David Tennant) as they join forces to prevent the coming of the Apocalypse. Jon Hamm and Miranda Richardson also star.
Take a look at the trailer below. The series will premiere in 2019 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories, so there’s plenty of time for you to to Amazon Prime Video, if you’re not already a subscriber.

Meg Ryan is Back in a New NBC Comedy With Lorne Michaels
Been wondering what’s going on with Meg Ryan lately? I know I have, and was reminded of the perkilicious 90’s star when we were channel surfing and landed on You’ve Got Mail.
Wonder no more. It’s just been announced that she’s signed on to executive produce and probably star inThe Obsolescents, a mystery comedy in development at NBC. SNL’s Lorne Michaels is producing the series, is set in a New Jersey suburb where the façade of peace and civility is disrupted by the shocking death of a long-time Township Council member. I’ll watch.
Fox is Developing a Partridge Family-esque Musical Comedy
Kudos to Fox for being willing to take risks on musical series. The network’s latest is An American Band, a single-camera comedy about the harmonic and discordant adventures of the Wyldes, a diverse and dysfunctional Northern California family that can’t get anything right with each other, but the music they’ve been making for the past 25 years as a multigenerational family band is right as rain.
Something tells me it will be a wee bit edgier than the series’ inspiration, The Partridge Family. At least on-camera.

Take a Sneak Peak at Helen Mirren as HBO’s Catherine the Great
As if we’re not all excited enough about HBO’s four part limited drama series about Catherine the Great, HBO has just released a sumptuous photo of Dame Helen Mirren in her Russian regalia, and it’s breathtaking.
The series takes a fictional look at the politically-tumultuous and sexually-charged court of the most powerful female monarch in history. As most of you know, Catherine wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century. She was strong-minded, independent, brilliantly-intelligent and sexually-liberated.
The mini-series focuses on Catherine (Mirren) towards the end of her reign and her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke). Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, this is a story of obsessive love. Unable to publicly marry and famously promiscuous, they develop a unique and devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together shaping Russia of old.

For the Last Time: ‘I’m Dying Up Here’
Looks like we won’t have our favorite gaggle of angst-ridden comedians to kick around anymore. It is with great disappointment that I report that Showtime just canceled I’m Dying Up Here after its second season. The pitch black “comedy” (although it centered on improv comedians in LA in the 70’s, it was more of a drama in my mind) was executive produced by Jim Carrey. Apparently, we were among the handful of people who were watching it when it wrapped its sophomore run–only had 162,000 live viewers for its season finale.

Hulu’s THE FIRST is TV at it’s finest — my prediction is that it’s going to give Handmaid’s Tale a run for its money during awards season. Kenan Thompson’s Odd Emmy Appearance: Now We Know
Not that he did anything wrong, but you were probably as puzzled as I was by SNL’s longest running cast member, Kenan Thompson, being selected to present the finally Emmy of the night last week — the award for Best Drama Series. Last year Oprah got the honor. What gives?
Could it be producer Lorne Michaels’ way of giving Thompson a super send-off? Rumor has it that Thompson will leave SNL after this season to star in a in single-camera comedy called Saving Larry for NBC. Of course Michaels and writer Jackie Clarke (Superstore) are behind the new show. The comedy centers on a dad who has to be both mother and father to his kids after his wife dies, while his father-in-law hovers over him.
Michaels, who produced the Emmy broadcast this year, packed it full of SNL stars, from Kate McKinnon and Thompson opening the show a song-and-dance number, to Thompson closing the evening’s festivities. In between, Tina Fey, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Will Ferrell and Andy Samberg all quipped, and Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph riffed throughout as recurring comedic commentators. And let’s not forget who hosted the show: Michael Che and Colin Jost of Weekend Update fame.
Using Thompson to both close and open the Emmy Awards ceremony, through, seems a little gratuitous. We can’t blame Thompson, however. What actor in their right ming would turn down an offer like that?
Jordan Peele to Be the New Rod Serling
CBS All Access gets all the good sci-fi stuff. First they produce the latest Star Trek rendition (which is excellent, but the way), and now they’ve prevailed upon the lovely and talented Jordan Peele to go all Rod Serling on us and host and narrate the CBS All Access Twilight Zone reboot.
Peele’s Monkey Paw Productions is already producing the modern reimagining of the series, which will go into production next Fall.
“Rod Serling was an uncompromising visionary who not only shed light on social issues of his time, but prophesied issues of ours,” Peele said. “I’m honored to carry on his legacy to a new generation of audiences as the gatekeeper of The Twilight Zone.”

As If Kristen Bell Weren’t Ubiquitous Enough, ‘Veronica Mars’ is Resurected
Don’t get me wrong. I love that spunky li’l charmer. But I fear for her health, she’s so busy with TV, movies and commercials. Now it’s just been announced that gave a direct-to-series order to a Veronica Mars revival starring Kristen Bell herself. She’ll reprise her role as the title character, although I suspect she’ll have grown up now and will no longer play the teen who worked as a private investigator under the guidance of her detective father.
Eight new episodes will debut in 2019, and in the meantime you can watch the old episodes on Hulu as well. It seems Hulu also struck a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for SVOD rights to all past episodes of the original series, which will be available in the summer of 2019. Marshmallows unite!
