Dear Critics Choice Members:

I’ve met and enjoyed spending time with many of you at various Critics Choice events. I’m commonly known as Lisa Johnson Mandell’s arm candy.

Lisa has informed me that there are many CCA members who are uniquely qualified for fun and relatively easy voiceover work that requires recording easy, fluent conversation in your birth language.

I run a company that specializes in providing voices for artificial intelligence, and we’ve been getting quite a few recent orders for speakers in numerous languages.

This simply requires people to engage in extended conversations on mic, which are then uploaded to the various chatbots, in order to train them to understand and process prompts and requests.

We are currently looking for speakers in the following languages:

French, Italian, German, Swedish, Dutch, Polish, Castilian Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Japanese, Arabic UAE, Thai, Malay, Indonesian, British English, Russian, Turkish and Korean.

*******************************************

These jobs pay between $80 and 150 per hour and start with a first session, which you must audition for, of about 2.5 hours, paying $300. There are several additional opportunities for successful candidates and I’d be very glad to work with those seasoned pros who might find this interesting.

To get a better understanding of what’s required, please read the entire job board listing pasted below.

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you

Jim Mandell

Our Current Listing:

We are seeking a wide variety of language speakers for an Artificial Intelligence Chatbot. This AI module needs to learn how to listen and understand your language. To do that, our client must upload many hours of original conversation to its system, and that’s where our speakers come in.

We are hiring many people who are comfortable having ongoing conversations with others, to simply talk with one another in virtual sessions we set up and direct.

[Please note this job is strictly for training AI modules. No recordings for this job will be used for ANY public use of any kind.]

If you’re comfortable talking at length about most any subject you choose, we’ll match you with another same-language speaker on a live Zoom session, then add a live producer to supervise, direct and answer your questions. Many of our speakers go on to bookings that have additional hours and excellent pay.

You do not have to be a pro. You just need to be a good conversationalist for this project!

Job Details

  • There are no scripts to read. Instead, booked speakers will do a single recording session, simply conversing with another same-language speaker (whom we provide) about whatever subjects come to mind. Simple concept! You can record from your computer in a quiet room, as if doing a job interview or having coffee together. Some people write out a list of topics to make it easier to go from one to another.
  • The pay is US$300 per speaker for approximately 2.5 hrs of recording, working from your own location. We will be recording many speakers over the next 3 months. If you do well, you may be invited for additional, high-paying future work.
  • No sound editing is required; just send in your recorded file and we will edit it on for you!
  • There are no charges or fees to pay — ever. This is a developing process that needs many new voices.

****** To apply, you must first send in a short 30-60-second audition. ******

There are no interviews and no specific requirements, except you must speak one of the languages listed with a neutral accent and be age 18 or over.

It should only take a few minutes to record your audition from your own location. If you book the job, we’ll let you know and you’ll probably record from the same location (details below).

How to Audition:

  • There are no audition scripts — Just talk about something! Be sure to record in a quiet environment so that your voice is clear and there is no other noise in the background. Avoid recording outside or in a room where the sound bounces around, like a kitchen, bath or dining room. Keep away from noisy outside traffic, air conditioners or computer fans.
  • Pretend you are having a conversation with a friend in a coffee shop. Your energy should be alive and sound natural. Some variation in emotion/style (happy, sad, attitudinal, frustration) is a huge plus. There is no script — it’s up to you to choose a couple of subjects, express yourself and show your dynamic range (see more below).
  • Be creative but be your real self — change attitudes and feelings but make sure they are moods you can maintain for 10 minutes at a time if you are hired.
  • Mic Technique: Keep your mouth at least six inches away from the mic, even if you’re recording on a phone. Listen back to see if there is distortion (fuzziness, pops, clicks) before sending. If so, move further back from the mic and try again. Your recording must be clean and clear.
  • Put some LIFE in your speaking voice. You can laugh or sigh, agree or protest. Ask questions, offer answers and appropriate pauses from your side of a conversation, just like you’re talking to a friend. You can record right onto your laptop or phone.
  • You can talk about any topic that friends would discuss: food, travel, TV shows, gossip, rocket science, gardening, the haircut you just got, school, etc.. Laughter and filler words (um, like, ya know, uh huh) are fine: Natural Conversation.
  • Please note auditions are NOT paid. They are your application for these paying jobs. Your audition will be reviewed only to demonstrate your voice for client consideration. So: It’s up to YOU to start the process by recording your audition and sending it in.

You will hear from us after our client reviews your file and chooses to book you for the job.

    Ready?

    • Find a quiet space, turn your computer’s record function on (if you need help with that, find youtube tutorials) and speak your mind for 30-60 seconds.

    Direction:

Alive with with good conversational energy. You can change moods with a couple of different topics for 15-30 seconds each, if you like.

    1. Speak in a natural, conversational tone for 30-60 seconds (improvise, there is no script). More suggestions:

    • What are your hobbies or interests? What are your plans for the week? What do yo like to do for fun? What endearing thing did your pet do? What’s your favorite movie, TV show or book?

    2. LABEL your mp3 audition with the first two letters of your language, followed by CCA and your name, per these examples below:

    For Dutch:  Du_CCA_Your Name.mp3

    For Polish:  Po_CCA_Your Name.mp3

    For Swedish:  Sw_CCA_Your Name.mp3

    For Turkish:  Tu_CCA_Your Name.mp3

Please DO NOT announce your name at the beginning or end of the file – just start talking!

    *******************************************************************

    3. SEND Your mp3 audition to: lisajohnsonmandell@gmail.com. She will make sure your auditions get preferential treatment. Write CCA mp3 in the subject line. If you’ve already sent in an audition, feel free to send it again to this email address.

And thanks very much for your interest. We need many voices, so I hope you will take a moment to participate.

  • We also have an intriguing Talent Scout program available to interested participants, that pays a fee each time you refer other speakers in your language who are then successful with a booking. More on that after we receive your mp3.
  • Communication: We are looking for intelligent self-starters.
