Huzzah! Or not. You’ll be either cheering or sneering when you find out which favorite shows are canceled and which favorite shows are renewed.

Which Favorite Shows are Canceled

The only thing we can count on when it comes to TV programming is that we can’t count on anything when it comes to TV programming.

It almost makes you fear getting too involved with any character, cast or concept, just because Hollywood seems so darn arbitrary. You never know when your favorites will be killed off, right?

Some you can guess — actors, producers, show runners etc. usually get a little bored after Season 7, and if the shows have been running that long, chances are their names and talents have become so prominent they’re ready to move on to bigger and better things.

Also, if they’re expensive to produce, ie have a boatload of special effects or elaborate period costumes and sets, their chances of running many seasons are greatly reduced. Especially when studios’ stock prices drop and they have to tighten their belts.

Some of the recent announcements you’ve probably already called, and some may surprise you. They’re all sure to make or break your day, if you’re like we are, and love a good show, and detest a bad one.

Renewed: The Lincoln Lawyer

Which Favorite Shows Are Canceled, and Which Favorite Shows Renewed

I came late to The Lincoln Lawyer party. We just finished binging it while working out a few days ago, and we were elated to hear recently that it has been renewed for a 10 episode third season.

From the cunning mind of David E. Kelley, it’s a fresh legal drama, based on the bestselling book series by author Michael Connelly. Starring the compelling Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the next season will be based on the fifth Lincoln Lawyer novel, The Gods of Guilt (which refers to the jury). Most of the main cast is returning except for Neve Campbell. Expect romance to come from elsewhere, other than First Wife.

Canceled: The Great

I am so bummed that Hulu has canceled its period dramedy The Great after only three seasons. The series loosely and bawdily documents the relationship of of Russian Empress Catherine II and Emperor Peter III in the 18th century. Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult star, and have each been nominated for numerous awards.

But in these days of austerity, how could they possibly continue such a lavish and well-written show? The Great has earned seven Emmy nominations over the course of its run, winning the award for outstanding period costumes last year. Those costumes were truly extraordinary!

Renewed: And Just Like That

We have mixed emotions about this. Max has renewed the original series And Just Like That  from executive producer Michael Patrick King, for a third season. It’s a series we love to hate, and the second season showed our favorite city girls and their posse in a ridiculous light that I guess we’re glad there will be a third season to redeem them.

Says King of the third season: “We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex And The City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors.” You better do right by them this time, buddy, or the fake fur is gonna fly. I’m just sayin.’

Canceled: Outlander

Say it isn’t so! Just as Season 7 is concluding, Starz announces that it’s going to wrap things up with a ten episode Season 8, based on author Diana Gabaldon’s eighth novel in the Outlander series, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.

The eighth book was the last book in the saga when the series debuted in 2014. But since then, Gabaldon has published a ninth volume, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, and has said in past interviews that she will conclude the book series with the 10th installment. Guess we’ll just have to read the books to find out what finally happens to the Fraser clan.

Greenlit: Outlander: Blood of My Blood

?

While we won’t have Jamie to lust after any more, don’t shed too many tears. Starz has given a formal green light to an Outlander prequel series titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood. It will tell the the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.

Matthew B. Roberts, who was the show runner for Outlander will in that capacity for the spin-off, and Gabaldon will act as a consulting producer. No date or casting information has been given yet, but we’ll let you know just as soon as we hear anything.

Huzzah! Or not. You’ll be either cheering or sneering when you rind out which favorite shows are canceled and which favorite shows are renewed.
