For Fathers Day — Make Your Dad Look Like a Star
Even though the dad in your life may not be seen by millions on the big screen, he’s probably still a star to you, right? So why not help him look like one? This year, instead of buying him some random shirt, socks or tie, why not put a little thought into something that will look really great on him — something that will make him shine?
Easier said than done? Read on, my friends, as Jill Kirsh, Hollywood’s Guru of Hue, tells you how to help your dad rock it like a super star, simply by selecting the right color. Get him a polo or an Oxford shirt in one of the colors that works best for him, and you both will be amazed at how fabulous he looks and feels. Jill has come up with a new, wildly popular color system that boils it all down to one simple concept that any dad will appreciate. It bases everything on current hair color. And if your dad’s bald, think back to the color of his hair before he started shaving his head.
Jill divides everyone into four hair color categories: Golden Browns and Redheads, Warm Blondes, Deep Brunettes, Ash Blondes, Platinums and Grays. She says anyone can wear just about any color, you just have to wear the right shade that complements the hair. Below she’s provided images of prominent guys in each category, and swatches of the colors they look best in, to show you exactly what she means. Use this guide when doing your Father’s Day shopping for dad, and you’re sure to find a gift that will make him both look and feel great.
Golden Browns and Redheads: Conan O’Brien – The warmth and richness of all of the hues found in this color group are fabulous with the fiery warmth of his red hair. One of his best colors is Forest Green, but a shirt in any of the colors in this swatch book would look fabulous on him.
Warm Blondes: Owen Wilson – Light and bright but with plenty of warmth from yellows in this palette complement the light and warmth of his hair color. One of his best colors is Poppy. A shirt in this color will make him stand out in a crowd, and a tie with Poppy as the predominant color will go well with just about any color shirt or jacket.
Ash Blondes, Platinums and Grays: David Letterman – Gray and platinum are cool colors in more ways than one. They are complemented by the cool blues, taupes and dusty pastels in this color group. Both Dads and Granddads will look great in this palette. One of their best colors is Lavender.
Deep Brunettes: Jon Hamm – The deep cool tones of his hair next to his fair complexion are balanced and highlighted by the bold clear hues and icy light shades found in this color palette. One of his best colors is Royal Blue. The men in this category can get away with wearing the boldest colors of all, and also look exceedingly fine in stark white and black. No one rocks a classic tux like Jon Hamm.
So now that you know how to make your Dad look like a movie star, it’s time to go shopping! Feel free to take your mobile phone with you so you can call this feature up and compare colors. Or if you’re shopping online, even better. But if your Dad is a fashion forward and is interested in always looking his best, why not get him a swatch book of his own for Father’s Day?
