Cindy Crawford Attempts an Outrageous Flip in Malibu

Okay, everybody knows that in most cases, a little celebrity star dust can add value to a home, but the limits of that theory are being definitely being tested by super model Cindy Crawford and her ultimate nightlife developer of a husband Rande Gerber, as they attempt to flip the Malibu beach house they paid $6 million for under a year ago. They’ve listed it at more than double that price –a not so cool $15.45 million.
Sure, they rehabbed the place, but it’s not like they dipped it in gold, super-sized it or even added any arresting design features. Relatively humble in size for a property with such an escalated asking price, the house is 3,651-square-feet spread over three stories, and situated on 1.41 acres on Point Dume, with beach access and what are generally known as “peek-a-boo” ocean views. There’s no doubt about the fact that it’s prime beach property, but $7.5 million dollars more valuable that it was last year? I think not.
While the relatively close neighbors include A-Listers like Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin (although it’s unclear which of them got the house in the divorce), as well as musicians like Kenny G and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they were all there a year ago when Crawford and Gerber bought the place, and can’t possibly account for the price hike. Nor have property values in the area risen that much this year, or any year, for that matter.
So, just in case some poor sap is star struck enough to give them their asking price, what will said sap get? Well, the wide plank French oak floors in the 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath house are new, as is the kitchen, which is almost completely done in uninspiring shades of white.

The house has an open floor plan, which means the great room flows into the dining room and kitchen, and there are plenty of sliding doors that open to balconies facing the sea, if not exactly giving one a full view of it.

I do like the spacious master suite, which takes up an entire floor

and has a decent bath with a steam shower and a free-standing soaking tub.

The only problem is, the suite is accessed by a narrow staircase that is not exactly ideal for the very old or the very young.
The entire property is gated, fenced and quite private, and features a lagoon-style swimming pool,

four enclosed parking spaces, and plenty of mature, natural looking flora.

And while the trees block a lot of the beach views, the property comes with a private path and deeded rights to Little Dume beach. But again, the beach access existed well before Crawford and Gerber moved in.

Really though, this house is a mere blip on the celeb couple’s Malibu radar. They also own a cottage on Broad Beach that they rent out, fully furnished for about $45,000 per month. And their main residence is a truly impressive estate on Encinal Bluffs. According to Variety, they recently purchased the $50 million estate right next door to that property. Perhaps they’re looking for some quick re-hab money for their latest. I hope they’re not in a hurry.
