Although she may personify the “Quirky Girl” meme on camera, The New Girl‘s Zooey Deschanel has just purchased a decidedly traditional Cape Cod-ish home in the seaside South Bay community of Manhattan Beach. Could it be that pending motherhood could be pushing her toward the practical? In any case, she and her fiancee, producer Jacob Pechenik, recently bought the brand new, 5,166 square foot home for $4,569,000, via a trust.

The Manhattan Beach area may be off the Hollywood beaten path, but professional athletes love it. Maria Sharapova, Mia Hamm, former Laker Luke Walton and a handful of hockey players on the Kings roster have called it home. Former footballer Michael Strahan owned a home there, before he got his hosting gig cross country in the other Manhattan.

Zooey’s never lived in and never staged two-story home has six bedrooms and 6.5 bath and sits on a small (for a celebrity) .2 acres of land. There’s no pool–yet, but there is a grassy backyard, and space for a cement pond, perhaps when the eminent baby is old enough to swim.

The house itself features a formal living room and a spacious dining area with a wet bar, a built-in wine storage area and a gas fireplace. There’s another fireplace in the large family room, which is only a few steps down from the kitchen. Said kitchen features a center island and all the latest appliances and accouterments. There are French doors, hardwood floors, white custom cabinetry and marble counter tops throughout.

High-tech features include a multizone heating and cooling system, a central vacuum system, an energy-saving lighting program, and a camera-enabled security  system, which will come in handy because the house is close to the street, close to the neighbors, and not to densely vegetated with high trees for privacy.

This is not Deschanel’s first trip to the real estate rodio. Variety reports that she also owns a 1930’s cottage in the Hollywood Hills, and that she previously went in on a 1920’s Spanish style duplex in the Hancock Park area, that she share with her sister, fellow actress Emily Deschanel, of Bones fame.
