Can you imagine any Hollywood event more lovely than a pre-Oscar/Valentine Gifting Suite luncheon and L.A.’s trendy Fig & Olive? Add the fact that attendees basked in 80 degree sunlight while our countrymen farther east were digging themselves out of massive piles of snow, and I feel outrageously fortunate. Okay, also a little bit unpopular with my East Coast friends and family, but I think they’re too busy dealing with the weather to read this. In any case, with much fan fare and ado, Oscar gifting season has officially begun.
And what an event it was! The sun was shining on the celebs and gift givers greeting each other at Doris Bergman’s 7th Annual Valentine Romance Oscar Style Lounge and Party – the first Oscar tribute of the season, honoring the upcoming 87th Annual Academy Awards. The event was hosted by MD Sun Skin Care and presented by Pura d’or Hair Care, which are responsible for some of the most luxurious locks and pampered skin in Hollywood. Personally, I never go out without a generous slathering of MD Sun.
And who knew that there is now skin care and protection for your pup? Well, make that snout care and protection. The good folks from My Dog Nose It introduced me to sunscreen for Frankie Feldman’s delicate nosy nose. My five-month-old Labradoodle pup is now ready for his first trip to the beach, as I will be in my new Telic Footwear earth friendly sandals and my chic chapeaus from DiSnapback hats and designer Trudi Hunke’s Bling it Hat Designs. And my makeup will stay fresh fresh and weather the waves thanks to Model in a Bottle sprays.
I was thrilled to see two of my very favorite designers at Doris Bergman’s event, coming from quite diverse ends of the spectrum. Samiah Hinton was on hand with her gorgeous brocade steam-punk/Edwardian coats, jackets and bags, which my husband and I are drooling over for the upcoming Edwardian Ball in Hollywood. Which color? Which cut?
And I fell in love all over again with the chic elegance of Sue Wong‘s designs. This gracious and gorgeous woman does sparkly sophistication like no other, and had her Fairies & Sirens collection on hand to prove it. How can you not love someone whose tag line is “Beauty. Magic. Transformation.”? Expect to see her styles on the Oscar Red Carpet, but also at your nearest Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Saks, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, etc. Like me, she seems committed to bringing a little Hollywood glamor into your home. Her new collection is kicking off L.A.’s fashion week next month, and I’ll be sure to bring you the details on that, as well as on her breathtakingly designed homes in Los Feliz and Malibu.
And what style lounge would be complete without a little bling? Twisted Silver came in from St. George, Utah with their line of handcrafted rings, necklaces, bracelets and more. My Saint, My Hero was gifting their blessing and serenity bracelets–I really love the thought of jewelry with true, thoughtful meaning. Silvana K Designs represented with their bold designs, and glass artist Hillel Rzepka got into the true spirit of Valentine’s Day with his unique, handmade glass hearts, which are truly wearable art.
Of course all events of this nature help and highlight charitable causes, and Wednesday’s Child received donations and awareness. All guests were encouraged to bring at least one item for teens in foster care aged 13-18, or make a monetary donation to these deserving kids. With efforts like these, Oscar gifting season doesn’t only benefit the stars and those who gift them, but so many more than you would expect.
