Can't Wait to Get 'Younger'
Sex and the City fans rejoice! Creator Darren Star is coming back with a flirty new, female-oriented comedy called Younger, and it stars some of my TV favorites. With original programming like Hot in Cleveland and The Exes, TV Land is known for it’s appreciation for and accommodation of what I like to call more “savvy” audiences. I think the rest of the world calls us “boomers.” It’s one of the few networks that doesn’t pander to the fickle and financially frustrated Millennial demographic, and I think TV Land should be supported for that alone.
But now they’re coming out with sitcom I can’t wait to see. In Younger, the incredibly talented Sutton Foster (from the underrated Bunheads, which, incidentally, was shot at my friend Vanessa’s Mailbu home) plays a 40-year-old mom who finds herself suddenly single and looking for a job. Only problem is, no one wants to hire a 40-something, so, with the help of a makeover from her best friend played by Debi Mazar, she packages and presents herself as 26. Playing her new boss is Miriam Shor, and Hilary Duff is cast as her new, 20-something co-worker.
Those of you who know me understand why I’m cottoning to this particular subject. I wrote a book about it back in 2010: Career Comeback–Repackage Yourself to Get the Job You Want. I gave fresh makeovers to all sorts of women and men on national television, and “Botoxed” their resumes. I was even featured in an extensive spread in The Wall Street Journal. Of course they all immediately found the jobs of their dreams after I had my way with them (sort of). I wonder if Darren Star was inspired by my book? I wonder if I could get a guest appearance on this new show? Wish I would have thought of a sitcom on the subject.
In any case, you can bet I will have my Tivo set for TV Land on January 13th, when this show premieres. I probably won’t be home to watch it live because I’m expecting my invitation to Darren’s personal premiere party to arrive any day now. I wonder if it will arrive via email or snail mail? I live in hope.
