I’d have to say my favorite Hollywood couple is the duo comprised of Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren and acclaimed director Taylor Hackford, in the news recently for re-listing their longtime Hollywood Hills estate for $12,995,000, after an oh-so-glamorous update.
You would expect nothing less from Oscar winning director Hackford, famous for films including An Officer and a Gentleman, (1982), The Devil’s Advocate (1997) and Ray (2004) and Mirren, one of the busiest actresses in Hollywood, portraying queens and powerful matriarchs on stage and screens both large and small.
They purchased the 6.5 acre estate in 1986. The stately Mediterranean Revival mansion was built in 1910 and had been the home of other Hollywood elites, including the original owner, silent film star Dustin Farnum, film producer and journalist Mark Hellinger and actress-producer Gail Patrick, executive producer of the original Perry Mason television series.
Hollywood home of Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford — Fabulous yet tasteful updates
Mirren and Hackford have spent decades carefully preserving and restoring the seven bedroom, 10 bath, 10,199 square foot mansion, carefully maintaining its Old Hollywood character and architectural integrity.
In 2021 they listed their sparkling estate with an $18.5 million purchase price, or a $45,000-a-month rental. They gradually reduced the asking price to $12,995 million in 2025, but with no acceptable offers, they decided to pull the prestigious property from the market again and make even more thoughtful updates, including significant enhancements to the landscaping.
They also brought in Vesta Home to design and stage the interiors to celebrate the estate’s historic character while showcasing how it lives for today’s buyer.
Inspired by the home’s Old Hollywood roots, the elegant design layers deep silk rugs, rich greens, warm browns, black accents, antique and vintage furnishings, and oversized black-and-white Hollywood photography throughout the grand-scale rooms.

The primary suite features a fireplace and a private balcony with remarkable views.

“Every house tells you what it wants to be, and this one didn’t need a lot of noise. It already had incredible character, so our job was really to layer in the right pieces and let the house speak for itself,” said Brett Baer, Co-Founder of Vesta Home.
“We wanted people to walk in and feel like it had always looked this way. Nothing feels forced, and every antique, old Hollywood reference, and furnishing was chosen to support the home instead of competing with it,” he summarized.
Taking a carefully edited approach, that included Vesta’s new iron outdoor furniture collection, they created a fresh perspective that feels elegant, timeless, and true to the home’s legacy.
As is Vesta Home’s custom, most of the pieces are available for negotiation, so a buyer could move right in, without have to hire still more designers and search for jus the right furniture—it’s already there.
The compound includes a grand main residence, a separate three-bedroom guesthouse, an office and apartment above the garage, a swimming pool, expansive terraces, and newly refreshed landscaped grounds framed by mature trees and panoramic views.

All this room needs is a dirty martini, and it comes Nirvana.

The estate is nestled discreetly in the heart of the Hollywood Hills, conveniently close to studios, events centers, Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip.
Most fitness-minded Hollywood residents would be surprised to realize that they pass right by the property on their hikes up Runyon Canyon, as part of it borders the Inspiration Point Trail.
“This is a truly rare opportunity to acquire one of the Hollywood Hills’ most historically significant and private estates,” said Jonas Heller who is listing the estate with Kurt Rappaport, both of Westside Estate Agency.Heller. “Properties of this caliber, with such a rich legacy and expansive acreage, seldom become available.”
I met the gracious couple for the first time at the home of a mutual friend, who lives not far from this home. Remarkably, every time I’ve seen one or the other at industry or private events, they are far more kind and engaging than I have a right to expect. Perhaps it’s because Helen and I share a love for fabulous yet comfortable shoes. But then again, isn’t everyone?
Home of Helen Mirren — What’s she up to now?
Mirren, a proud octogenarian, has been busier than ever over the past 18 months. In 2025, she co-starred in the Netflix’s film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club and in Kate Winslet’s directorial project Goodbye June. She also starred in the Paramount+ crime drama series MobLand, for which she earned her eighteenth Golden Globe nomination.
Before that, she, along with Harrison Ford, was the beating heart of the harrowing Taylor Sheridan series 1923, and received multiple awards nominations for her performance.
Up next for Mirren is another season of MobLand with Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine and Joanne Froggatt.
On the big screen, she’ll next star opposite Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Cooke in the thriller Switzerland.
