Voiceover Auditions for British English, Mexican Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Indonesian Speakers
Hi CCA Members!
This is a page exclusively for you. The information below will inform you what types of voices are needed to teach AI systems to speak and understand different languages and accents. This is paid work, and is being posted in response to requests for more voiceover opportunities after our Membership Empowerment Series session on how to book voice over gigs.
CCA members are uniquely qualified for voiceover work, because who loves to talk more than we do? And so many of us spend so much time on the microphone.
The company behind this is run by James Mandell, my husband, whom many of you have met at CCA events over the years. It is simply a fun, timely opportunity to make a few hundred bucks, at a time when a few hundred bucks can make a big difference. There are absolutely no obligations, and the only personal information you need reveal is your email address. You will not be contacted further, unless you are selected to participate in the project.
At this time, the voices below are in great demand, but there will be more different types needed in the future. We’ll keep you posted when new listings arise.
In the meantime, check out the listing below, and if you qualify, feel free to take the time (all of 5 minutes) to send in an audition. While this is a smaller gig, it could easily lead to more. One member has already nailed the audition, secured the gig, and has been selected to do continuing work beyond what’s mentioned below.
Good luck!
Lisa Johnson Mandell
Voiceover opportunities for CCA Members
We are seeking:
British English, Mexican Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Indonesian speakers who are comfortable having long conversations with others, to be used for AI (artificial intelligence) training sessions.
Our clients need recordings to teach AI systems to speak and understand multiple languages. That is best done by transferring many hours of regular conversation recorded by a wide variety of speakers.
Please Note: This job is strictly for training AI engines. No recordings for this job will be used for ANY public use of any kind.
If you’re comfortable talking at length about most any subject you choose, we’ll match you with another native language speaker via Zoom, then supervise, direct and answer your questions so you understand exactly what to do. Many of our speakers go on to bookings that have additional hours and excellent pay.
You do not have to be a pro. We welcome beginner voices for this project!
JOB DETAILS:
- There are no scripts to read. Instead, booked speakers will do a single recording session, simply conversing with a partner we provide about whatever comes to mind. You can record from your computer in a quiet room, as if doing a job interview or having coffee together. Some people write out a list of topics to make it easier to go from one to another.
- The pay is US $300 per speaker for approximately 2.5 hrs of recording, working from your own location. We will be recording many speakers over the next 3 months. If you do well, you may be invited for additional, high-paying future work.
- No sound editing is required; just send in the original file and we will edit it on your behalf.
- And there are no charges or fees to pay — ever. This is a developing art form that needs many new voices.
*** To apply, you must first send in a short 30-second audition recording. ***
There are no interviews and no specific requirements, except that your language must be your FIRST language and that you are 18 or over, who can speak at length without getting too tired! Since you will be paired with another speaker, half the recording time will be listening to your partner.
HOW TO AUDITION:
It should only take a few minutes to record your audition from your own location. If you book the job, we’ll let you know and you’ll probably record from the same location (details below).
- There are no audition scripts — Just talk about something! Be sure to record in a quiet environment so that your voice is clear and there is no other noise in the background. Avoid recording outside or in a room where the sound bounces around, like a kitchen, bath or dining room. Keep away from noisy outside traffic, air conditioners or computer fans.
- Pretend you are having a conversation with a friend in a coffee shop. Your energy should be alive and sound natural. Some variation in emotion/style (happy, sad, attitudinal, frustration) is a huge plus. There is no script — it’s up to you to choose a few subjects, discuss in some detail and show your dynamic range.
- Be creative but be your real self — change attitudes and feelings but make sure they are moods you can maintain for 10 minutes at a time if you are hired!
- Mic Technique: Keep your mouth at least six inches away from the mic, even if you’re recording on a phone. Listen back to see if there is distortion (fuzziness, pops, clicks) before sending. If so, move further back from the mic and try again. Your recording must be clean and clear.
- Put some life in your speaking voice. You can laugh or sigh, agree or protest. Ask questions, offer answers and appropriate pauses from your side of the conversation, just like you’re talking to a friend. Include short pauses for when another person would answer or ask you a question. You can record right on to your laptop or phone.
- You can talk about any topic that friends would discuss: food, travel, TV shows, gossip, rocket science, gardening, the mole on your back, school, etc. Laughter and filler words (um, like, ya know, uh huh, and all that kinda stuff) are fine: Natural Conversation.
- Please note auditions are NOT paid. They are your application for these paying jobs. Your audition will be reviewed only to demonstrate your voice for client consideration.
- Communication: We are looking for intelligent self-starters.
Audition topics to get you started:
What are your hobbies or interests, your plans for the week? What are your vacation plans? What’s your favorite movie, TV show, or book? (CCA members can talk about movies and TV for hours, right?)
1. Now: Find a quiet space, turn your computer’s record function on and talk about your day for half a minute.
Then listen back to be sure the recording is clear, that there’s no echo or noise coming through, then export the recording as an mp3.
*** It’s up to YOU to start the process by recording your audition and sending it in! ***
You will hear from us after our client reviews your file and chooses to book you for the job. If you have additional questions prior to submitting your audition, send a message to lisajohnsonmandesll@gmail.com and she will try to respond promptly.
2. LABEL and SEND your Audition File:
Label your mp3 audition(s) according to the examples below:
British BR_Q6_conversational-YOUR NAME.mp3
Spanish SP_Q6_conversational-YOUR NAME.mp3
Portuguese BP_Q6_conversational-YOUR NAME.mp3
Indonesian IN_Q6_conversational-YOUR NAME.mp3
[Please do not announce your name at the beginning or end of the file – just start talking!]
3. SEND Your MP3 audition to: talent@lectriverse.com
- And thanks very much for your interest. We need many voices, so we hope you will take a moment to participate. If you have friends or family members 18 or older, you can invite them to record their own auditions as well!
Thanks and looking forward,
James
