Take a Look Inside the Fabulous Gwyneth Paltrow Real Estate Portfolio

The ultimate winsome blond actress has made an awe-inspiring journey from willowy nepo baby to Emmy- and Academy Award-winning actress to controversial health and wellness guru. And the Gwyneth Paltrow real estate portfolio reflects that.

Her roller coaster ascent to the pinnacle of the celebrity spotlight—and the peak of the wellness industry—is one that has earned much public attention, with some placing Paltrow, 52, on a pedestal, while others have dragged her name through the mud, accusing her of touting an unhealthy body image and dangerous wellness practices.

Paltrow’s life and career have now been thrust into the headlines yet again thanks to a recently published biography, “Gwyneth: The Biography” by Amy Odell, which attempts to lift the lid on Paltrow’s rise to fame, beginning when she was just a young child following her actress mother around at rehearsals.

But the book also takes a fascinating look at the way in which Paltrow’s personal evolution has been reflected in her real estate journey—from her relationships to her business successes (and failures)—noting that, even as the latest headlines were being written about the starlet, she was usually already plotting her next move, both literally and metaphorically.

“Love her or hate her, we haven’t been able to look away,” Odell writes.

Gwyneth Paltrow Gets $22 Million for Her Los Angeles Home
Gwyneth Paltrow’s intriguing real estate journey takes center stage in a new book about her rise to fame.

With showbiz parents actress Blythe Danner and director/producer Bruce Paltrow plus Steven Spielberg as her godfather, the model/actress/author/entrepreneur seemed destined to step into the spotlight.

Born in Los Angeles, she spent her first years in a New England–style white clapboard house in Brentwood that her parents filled with antiques, long before Brentwood was considered tres chic.

In 2012 she would return to Brentwood, which had become the epitome of Southern California tres chic, and buy a $10 million mansion with her then husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Earlier this year, she sold the estate for $22 million.

But in between, there were many spacious homes and even bigger career moves—she starred in more than 50 films and counting; founded the multimillion dollar health, wellness, and lifestyle platform Goop; was romantically involved with some of the best and brightest; and, most importantly as she will tell you, had two healthy, happy children.

In the meantime, she also bought and sold some of the finest homes in the land. Here’s the rundown.

Paltrow lived with her parents in a 5,300-square-foot Santa Monica home surrounded by a dense green privacy hedge, with “a pool and a garden and a guesthouse and a big old tree in the backyard with a treehouse,” she recalled.

Local residents including Mel Brooks, Anne Bancroft, and William Hurt could be found casually reading scripts and chatting about business at the nearby cafes within walking distance.

Arnold Schwarzenegger bought a home down the block in 1980, when Gwyneth was 8, Odell reported, and she’d sometimes see him jogging through the neighborhood in a red Speedo. Too bad cellphones with video cameras hadn’t been invented yet!

The Paltrow family moved into that house in 1977. It was intentionally quiet and unpretentious in those days. Her parents ended up selling it to Jerome Dahan, co-founder of the denim brands Citizens of Humanity and 7 for All Mankind, in 2008. It was eventually expanded to 6,900 square feet, and last sold for $11.4 million in 2024.

The interior and exterior have been substantially remodeled since Paltrow lived there as a child.

She may have started life as the consummate California girl, but when she was about 12, her parents decided to move the family, which then included younger brother Jake, back to New York, where they’d spend a good deal of their careers.

They bought a five-story brownstone on East 92nd Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues, just steps from Central Park.

Paltrow spent her junior high and senior high school years there, then moved back to California to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara.

However, before she finished her degree in anthropology, Paltrow dropped out to pursue an acting career.

She spent most of her 20s bouncing between the East and West coasts, developing an A-list acting career, winning an Oscar at age 26 for her role in “Shakespeare in Love,” dating, and sometimes cohabitating with other A-listers, including her former partners Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.

During that time, the Gwyneth Paltrow real estate portfolio was expanded when she bought herself a townhouse in New York. But her real estate portfolio really started gaining momentum after she met and married British musician Martin in December 2003. It didn’t take long for the two to become a true bicoastal and bi-continental couple.

2004: London love nest

The “Shakespeare in Love” star and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin purchased a stunning townhouse in the Belsize Park neighborhood of London in 2004.

Shortly after their wedding, Paltrow and Martin bought a large townhouse in an upscale North London neighborhood known as Belsize Park, paying $4.1 million to actress Kate Winslet and her then-husband Sam Mendes for the property.

They also purchased the two homes on either side of it to combine the spaces into a sprawling, 33-room mansion.

The couple recruited Martin’s architect brother to help them restore the home’s Art Deco interior style and update certain aspects of the property to meet the needs of their growing family. They added three more bedrooms, a bathroom and a half, a home gym, a play room for their children and a swimming pool in back.

This was not popular with the neighbors. “We have had years of their building works,” complained a neighbor to the British tabloid Daily Star. “They have taken down trees so they can park their flashy cars in the driveway and they put a huge swimming pool in the back garden.”

This stunning London mansion is no longer a part of Paltrow’s real estate portfolio, however. Ten years later, they put the property on the market for $11.5 million after deciding they were spending too much time in the U.S. to require such a lavish home in London.

2006: Heritage Hamptons home

Two years after purchasing their London spread, the A-list couple decided they needed a bigger stateside footprint and bought an elegant Hamptons home for $5.4 million.

Located in Amagansett, the home provided them with ample opportunity to rub shoulders with other celebs including Alec Baldwin, Robert Downey Jr., Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Paul McCartney.

Measuring 7,000 square feet and containing five bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, nanny’s quarters, a large pool, and ocean views, it became a popular gathering place for her A-list friends. Paltrow eventually documented stylish updates to the property on Goop, and it was also featured in several lifestyle magazines.

After Paltrow’s famous “conscious uncoupling” with Martin in 2016, she retained ownership of the Hamptons home and continues to spend a good amount of time there, hosting prominent events at the property, including her wedding to producer Brad Falchuk in 2018.

Her beloved father’s ashes are reportedly buried under a tree on the property.

2007: Multiple Manhattan perches

In early 2007, Paltrow and Martin decided they needed a home in NYC, where she was constantly filming. She sold the Manhattan townhouse she’d purchased when she was single for $6.9 million, and she and her hubby picked up stylish, 7,000-square-foot Tribeca condo for nearly $8 million.

It featured four bedrooms, six baths, two maids’ rooms, a terrace, and the kind of security system celebrities crave.

A few years later, they listed that apartment for $14 million and picked up a three-bedroom, 3,892-square-foot penthouse with a 500-square-foot deck in Tribeca for $5.1 million.

Paltrow employed her favorite AD100 design firm, Roman and Williams, to trick out the place in pastels, with painted white floors, French doors, and a unique sofa swing.

They sold that one after their breakup, first listing it in 2016 for $14.5 million and eventually selling it for $10.7 million in 2017, according to NY Curbed.

2012: Back to Brentwood

By 2012, Paltrow’s company Goop had expanded from a weekly newsletter to a thriving online news, advice, and retail business, and she was juggling it with her acting career.

Though some of her Goop employees lived on the East Coast, the majority of the company’s day-to-day running was done from Southern California—which was one of many reasons why she and Martin decided that they needed a luxurious abode on Paltrow’s home turf.

Together, they purchased an equestrian estate sitting on two-thirds of an acre in hilly Brentwood, for $9.95 million.

A great deal of work was done to this Mandeville Canyon home, much of it by TV creator Ryan Murphy’s decorator, Windsor Smith, according to biography author Odell.

Her book also claims that Paltrow used her increasing influence as a lifestyle guru to try to sponsor the renovations, alleging that the work included “attempts to get brands, such as the high-end bathroom fixture company Waterworks” to donate services and goods in exchange for posts.

Thanks to Paltrow’s high profile and robust lifestyle platform, she was able to partner with numerous brands for most of her properties. RH (Restoration Hardware) seemed to be one of her favorites.

Odell also reported that Paltrow was a bit of a trendsetter in the neighborhood; Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen appeared to follow the Goop founder’s lead by snapping up their own property in the area soon after she and Martin moved in.

By 2024, Paltrow and Martin had long since split, and the home had been expanded into a picture-perfect, eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom mansion with a one-bedroom guesthouse, a wine cellar, gym, office, game room, movie theater, and garage with an apartment above it.

The property turned out to be too big for her family of two; by this point, Paltrow had wed Falchuk, while her daughter, Apple, and son, Moses, had made their way off to college, leaving the actress itching for a cozier abode.

Paltrow decided to list the property for $30 million. Eight months later, in 2025, she let it go for $22 million. But she was hardly left homeless in So Cal. The Gwyneth Paltrow real estate portfolio was still providing—she had another grand estate a little farther up the coast.

2014: Malibu mania

The architecturally significant John Lautner-designed Malibu beach house that Paltrow and Martin purchased for $14 million in 2014, before their split, remained with Martin after the couple’s divorce.

The secluded 3,650-square-foot retreat known as the Garwood Residence was built in 1972, and featured four-bedrooms, post-and-beam construction, and private access to Little Dume beach, in addition to a swimming pool, tennis court, and gym.

Locals were not pleased in 2022 when Martin, who was living with Dakota Johnson at the time, demolished the “architectural gem” to build a new 5,389-square-foot home with a detached garage, swimming pool, spa, tennis court, amphitheater, a 900-square-foot guesthouse, and a huge, open-air carport.

2016: The Montecito retreat

Having bounced from the West Coast to the East Coast and back again, it was in Montecito, CA, where Paltrow appears to have found a truly permanent home base—having fallen in love with the area when she was still a student at UC Santa Barbara.

Having built up her skills as an interior designer during the overhauls of her many homes, Paltrow made the decision to go one step further, by building her dream dwelling from scratch.

She purchased a 2.4-acre plot of of prime ocean view land for $4.9 million in 2016, the year she and Martin split up, without her ex-husband’s participation.

At the time, there were two shabby homes, built in the late 1980s, on the decayed property, but she felt the investment was worth it because of the acreage itself and the views.

It took her six years and an untold fortune to create and build her idyllic dream home there, but with that time she was able to perfect every room in the solar-powered, 14,000-square-foot compound, which now features a large swimming pool, an inviting guesthouse, a greywater system, and a Goop-approved and outfitted home spa.

According to property records, Paltrow and Falchuk—who tied the knot in 2018—paid $4.9 million for the property in 2016—and proceeded to raze the existing home, making way for a sprawling “eco-friendly mansion” that took nearly seven years to complete.

Paltrow has gone topless while standing over her stove in a new cooking video filmed inside her $4.9 million Montecito home.

In an article in House & Garden, Paltrow described the feeling of the mostly single-story home as “a Parisian apartment set within an old European barn, something with high ceilings, flooded with light, a place that feels generous yet manageable at the same time.”

Details like hand-painted scenic wallpaper, a relatively neutral color palette, rich, natural materials, and a mix of textures create a relaxing, inspiring, yet classic vibe.

It’s obvious that Paltrow is comfortable in her carefully curated home, as it was here in the kitchen that she playfully shot herself topless (from behind) preparing a healthy white bean and sausage shakshuka, Tuscan style, for her husband. Needless to say, it went viral, and raised an interesting quip from her daughter Apple. “Did I steal your shirt by accident or…” the college student joked in the comments section.

Paltrow also confessed that she “drank every night” while January’s wildfires tore through Southern California and could have threatened her sanctuary. She admitted that she used alcohol as a way to “medicate” during the devastating blazes.

With her elegant Montecito retreat on one coast and her welcoming, familial Hamptons home on the other, it’s not likely Paltrow will mourn the absence of her Malibu beach house, Brentwood mansion, or New York apartments.

And no matter what happens with her current dwellings, the Gwyneth Paltrow real estate portfolio will always include the spot at 6900 Hollywood Blvd., where she has a star on the Walk of Fame.
