INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Review — Spider-Men, Spider-Girls, Spider-Verse!
10-year-old Winston’s Into the Spider-Verse review says comics fans will be glad Miles Morales is on the big screen at last, and movie fans will learn to love him.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the awesome new animated Sony Spider-Man movie. It has better directing and a more compelling storyline than you might expect from an animated film of this genre.
It’s about what happens when smart, artistic blatino teen Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) finds out that he has powers just like the Peter Parker Spider-Man we all know. Or think we know. Miles discovers there is not only another Peter Parker Spider-Man (Jake Johnson) from another dimension, but there are still more Spider-people like him.
These include the female Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), a manga-inspired spider girl with a spider-robot, a black-and-white spidey inspired by film noir, and a cartoon pig version. They appear because Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) and his villainous crew are trying to open a portal to the multiverse.
Spider-Verse takes a great storyline (Miles and the others are all from existing Marvel comics) and puts an interesting spin on it. The look is really different from other animated movies like Isle of Dogs or Incredibles 2. The animators really did a wonderful job mixing a real comic-book look with the computer animation we’re used to.
Also, my favorite characters have to be the manga-style Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and the lovable Alfred-like Aunt May (Lily Tomlin). If this movie doesn’t get nominated for best animated feature I will be shocked. The action is very exciting. It has really good dialogue and humor. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse really has tons of great qualities and I would like to see a sequel.
