KIN Review — 10-Year-Old Winston Says It’s ‘Awesome!’
Kin review — Our 10-year-old film critic says, “This is a great movie and I advise seeing it”
Kin is really a relationship film, but it has some cool sci-fi elements.
Eli (Myles Truitt) is kid in Detroit who finds a mysterious weapon and takes it on a road trip with his older brother Jimmy (Jack Reynor), who just got out of prison. They meet a stripper, Milly (Zoë Kravitz), who goes on the run with them. Meanwhile, they’re being pursued by two otherworldly creatures, a group of terrifying criminals led by Taylor Balik (James Franco), and the authorities.
Kin is not exactly an action film. It’s more about the two brothers bonding than about sci-fi or fighting. Although the film takes its time, don’t even think about bailing early because you just think it’s too slow; you should see it from top to bottom.
The directors, Josh and Jonathan Baker, based the movie on their short film, Bag Man. Kin is their feature directorial debut, and it shows potential.
Also, the lead actor, Myles Truitt, is really good. When he hears his dad (Dennis Quaid) and his brother arguing, he really convinces you he is feeling confused and sad, especially when his dad kicks his brother out.
As I said before, Kin is mostly a relationship movie, but it feels like a high-budget sci-fi film. You shouldn’t expect anything even close to Star Wars or Avengers, though Kin does have some cool action scenes that are fascinating and intense.
When you finally see the futuristic weapon used, it is very cool because you’d been waiting to see what it could do. It was awesome when you saw how powerful it really was.
You definitely root for the characters. This is a great movie and I advise seeing it.
