The Agency Throws a Mythically Magical Open House Party
The Agency’s fabulous open house party was a true Mid Summer’s Night Dream.
When you live in the greater Los Angeles area, where multimillion-dollar mansions are de rigueur, an agent needs to do something off the charts to grab attention. And that’s exactly what The Agency’s Emil Hartoonian, James Harris, and David Parnes (the latter two of Million Dollar Listing LA fame) recently did: they threw an outrageously lavish open house party to introduce a $15 million estate in The Oaks of Calabasas, and I was able to write about it for Realtor.com. I’m telling you, it was the best ‘open house’ I’ve ever attended, and I’ve attended thousands.
In order to show off this this nearly 15,000-square-foot, Mediterranean-style estate, it was decked out in a Mid Summer Night’s Dream theme. Open house party-goers were greeted in the grand entryway by a lovely forest fairy. We then flowed into a great hall, where we were treated to delicacies set on a buffet table with a human centerpiece. Out on the spacious terrace there was a DJ accompanied by a sprite playing an electric violin, a Satyr, and a mermaid, who you know, if you follow AtHomeInHollywood.com, totally intrigued me.
“By creating elements that a buyer has dreamed, we can personify what living in that home and hosting an event can be,” said co-listing agent Hartoonian. I, like most of the guests were unfamiliar with this exclusive enclave in Calabasas, and were impressed by the grand luxury, privacy, and security the double-gated community has to offer.
We were also impressed by the house itself. Custom-built in 2008, it features eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. With more than 3,000 square feet of covered patio space and 15,000 square feet of interior space, the property offers more than 18,000 square feet of luxe living.

Education tech guru Barclay Burns and his son William pause with us for a moment to take a pic with the fabulous mermaid.
But it was the spectacular sunset view, framed by strategically placed beams of light, that took our breath away. “The views had views! I could actually see the stars, which is rare in L.A.,” said my dear friend Barclay Burns, an educational tech entrepreneur who came to the event with his son William from Salt Lake City.
The home has other impressive features, including gold-plated finishes, a nearly 1-ton chandelier, a paneled study, custom millwork, and an attached casita with full kitchen facilities, a pizza oven, and catering accommodations, which were in full swing during the party.
Located behind double gates, all this luxury is safe, secure, and far from paparazzi and crazy fans. Celebrities such as Will and Jada Smith, Michael Jackson’s kids, Britney Spears, Keyshawn Johnson, and Kourtney Kardashian have all called Calabasas home. Among the area’s main attractions for fortunate families are excellent schools, both public and private. In fact, the main reason the owners are parting with their dream house is that their children have left the nest.
Hartoonian noted that he is attempting to redefine how to market exclusive properties. “As the global economy evolves, so will the flavor of buyers looking for a particular lifestyle,” he says. “We have to keep ahead of that initiative.”
And so he has.
