Another Super Stylish Home Sales Video — Does Drama Sell?

I am so loving the trend of producing a themed, Hollywood-style home sales video to uniquely market a property! If the one we featured last week, showing kids enjoying the high life in a beautiful Bel Air modern was the most amusing, I’ve just come across one that could well be the most stylish and dramatic. See what you think:

The video for 6654 Emmet Terrace is almost 11 minutes long, which would feel burdensome if you were just looking a the house, but in this case, we see the the people who own, designed and built the home, Ori and Nafisa Ayonmike, starring ias a troubled couple who go from room to room as they reflect on the end of their marriage. The only dialogue is a few words surrounding the husband announcing, “I want a divorce.”
Mr. Ayonmike, a 34-year-old corporate concierge, told The Wall Street Journal that he hopes his mother-in-law never sees the promotional video he produced to sell the elegant home he built in the Hollywood Hills. It is about a couple splitting up, after all, and he used his own wedding photos and video in the piece. While his marriage is just fine, thank you, he wanted to do something different to promote his new, 5,500 square-foot-home, so he came up with this idea and paid the $20,000 it cost to produce the film, which allowed him to keep creative control.
That’s likely marketing money well spent. In 2013, the couple paid $995,000 for an older home on the lot. They tore down most of the older house, then spent an estimated $3 million building the new one. It’s now on the market for $4.5 million.
And what a home it is! It has five bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths,

and lavish features including a formal living room with a soaring ceiling,

a 144-inch screen home theater,

a gourmet kitchen with All Miele appliances,

an amazing, custom 250 bottle walnut finished wine storage area that’s a work of art in and of itself,

a state of the art 16 camera security system, a full size pool and all glass tiled spa,

steam showers and a gym/yoga/play room.

In addition, there’s a control 4 Smart Home system, three marble slab finished linear fireplaces, heated bathroom floors with a large hurricane shower in master bathroom suite,

Antonio Lupi bath cabinets, Corian countertops and custom sinks.
I’m sure that most people shopping for a home in the $4.5 million price range will pay more attention to the sweeping shots of the home’s fabulous design and state of the art smart features than to the divorce juju the film evokes. It’s a bit of a risk to associate heartbreak with a property. But when you think about it, divorce is one of the main reasons a lot of great homes go on the market. We knew full well the beloved home we purchased was only on the market because the couple who owned it was splitting up. We even gave them extra time in escrow to find new, separate homes. And the spirit of divorce neither lingered, nor affected our marriage one iota.
So I suppose that I, or any other lucky buyer, could indeed be happy in a home marketed with a slick, divorce-themed video. I’m happily humming “Band of Gold” even as I write.
The home is listed by Ben Bacal, Matthew Yim and Jason Peeler.
