As goes the real estate market, so goes the marriage. At least that’s true in the case of Mariah Carey and her estranged husband Nick Cannon. Almost a year ago they listed their Hamptons-style estate in Bel Air for  $12,995,000, they sold it for about $9 million. Oh yes, and the couple also recently filed for divorce, according to sources. But even though they didn’t even come close to getting their asking price, they stand to make a good profit off it. They bought the three-acre property six years ago for $6.95 million.

Of course they did improve the home by adding a state-of-the-art recording studio and a putting green.

But they left some of the estate’s more unique features intact, like the “Aspen Room,” a rustic family room/entertainment den with a bar, a massive stone fireplace, vaulted beamed ceilings, walls of windows with views and space for several hundred guests.

Other unique features include the elaborate nursery for twins Monroe and Moroccan,

the huge fitness area and gym with the double-height half-court basketball court,

and the Moroccan-style hookah-lounge, based on the location where Cannon reportedly proposed to Carey. So much for the karma there.

Maybe it’s better in the arresting home theater, which has a fireplace and Roman-style viewing lounges.

There’s also a large, black-bottom pool, an open-air cabana, and spacious lawns.

All totaled, the home contains seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and has six fireplaces.

Many of the rooms have expansive city, ocean and reservoir views.

And the gated property is extremely private, as befitting a celebrity couple. Within the estate’s high walls there is parking for around 20 cars–if none of them are limos. Former Charley’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett enjoyed the celebrity trappings of the property for 20 years before selling it in 1999 for almost $2.7 million.

No word yet on what the former couple will do on their New York City triplex that’s been featured in Architectural Digest, or their oceanfront compound on Windermere Island in the Bahamas. We’ll keep you posted.
