How to Wear Green on St. Patrick’s Day
Out here in Hollywood, even the least Irish among us wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Even though there aren’t as many descendants of the Emerald Isle on the West Coast as there are on the East Coast, pinching anyone who isn’t wearing the designated color is a big thing here–we’re a touchy lot, and any excuse will do. So if you’re one of those who plans to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day even though you think it makes you look seasick, chin up, my friend! Hollywood’s Guru of Hue Jill Kirsh is about to help you look absolutely gorgeous in green.
You might have heard that it’s only the lucky redheads who look really good in green, and the rest pale in comparison. Not so, insists Jill. “Anyone can wear almost any color, as long as it’s the right shade for you, personally, ” she says, and she has a fool proof way that we all can discern our best colors and shades. No, it has nothing to do with the seasons. That tired old system is SO last century. Jill has devised something new, and she’s constantly called upon to help celebs look their best on camera and off.
It’s quite simple, really. Jill’s new, unique system bases everything on your current hair color. “The hair frames the face,” she declares emphatically, and when you think about it, you know it’s true. Also consider the fact that when you change your hair color, your clothes look different on you. Jill divides us all into four color categories, depending on our hair color: Golden Browns and Redheads, Warm Blondes, Deep Brunettes, Ash Blondes, Platinums and Grays.
To demonstrate how you too can wear green on St. Patrick’s Day and look like you’re Red Carpet ready, Jill has taken some prominent celebrities in each of these categories and given us samples of the shades that are best for them. Pay attention, and avoid the nasty bruises from the over zealous pinchers of St. Paddy’s.
Deep Brunettes: Taraji P. Henson, who dazzles us all as a femme fatale in Fox’s Empire, is the perfect example how a Deep Brunette looks best in a rich Emerald green. Those in this color category can and should wear the boldest, brightest colors with style and élan. More power to them!
Warm Blondes: Focus‘s sizzling hot Margot Robbie, as a Warm Blonde, looks best in the very Irish Kelly green, which is super easy to find in the stores these days, especially paired with Navy blue. Bonus Color Tip: Navy blue is is much better on warm blondes than solid black.
Ash Blondes, Platinums and Grays: Seafoam green is the perfect color for people like the splendid Dame Judi Dench. If you’re in this category, sea foam will put color in your cheeks and a sparkle in your eye — both of which are very appropriate for St. Paddy’s Day.
Golden Browns and Redheads: While there are many greens that look good on Golden Browns and Redheads like Amy Adams, Olive green is the absolute best, according to Kirsh. While it looks great on redheads, it’s equally excellent on warm brunettes like Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner and Jessica Beal.
So there you have it. Your chances of having the luck o’ the Irish have just increased ten fold now that you know how to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
And, because we simply can’t resist adorable pix of dogs and (and because we just had Frankie Feldman’s colors analyzed by Jill) here are some photos demonstrating how great the right green looks on precious pooches, one in each hair category.
