I don’t know about you, but I am bored to death with basic white and stainless steel appliances. Oh sure, if you want to spring for a custom SubZero model you can have any designer front that suits your fancy, but I have to applaud GE for test driving a new type of colorful refrigerator in dazzling hues like Cupcake Blue and Red Pepper, at prices that are much more in line with what your average non-celebrity can afford.

GE red-fridge light kitchenUnfortunately for me here in Hollywood but lucky for those living inland, the terrifically toned refrigerators are only available right now at Omaha’s Nebraska Furniture Mart, Salt Lake City’s RC Willey and Colorado’s Parker Appliance Factory, in limited quantities. The MSRP for either colorful refrigerator is approximately $1,500, although the individual retailers will determine the price. Response to the shockingly shaded refrigerators in these markets will determine whether GE will go into full-scale production to offer the new colors on a national level.

“Consumers who want a pop of color or something that just stands out will be drawn to these new colors,” says Lou Lenzi, director of GE’s industrial design operation. “The new color choices from GE give consumers more opportunity to personalize their kitchen in a way that’s been traditionally reserved for high-end appliances.”

On the outside, the high-gloss crown door has a unique shine and is complemented by the horizontal handles. Plus, Artistry fridges are all  ENERGY STAR® rated. While they might not quite have the prestigious name of some of the higher end models, they don’t have the high end cost either, and these wild colors provide enough pop to make any owner feel like a celebrity in his/her own kitchen.

What about you? Would you replace your old, almond-toned model with a lively, colorful refrigerator in a yummy shade like Cupcake Blue or Red Pepper? Feel free to weigh in. You’ll find an easy poll to take on the subject here.

They almost have a retro feel to them. I really like the Red Pepper. It would look great in both contemporary and traditional kitchens. I live in one of the test markets, so maybe I should go shopping!

We had a vintage 1940’s kitchen in our home and are thrilled the new colors are finally available! BUT When will the Los Angeles area be getting them?!
