Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company Coffee
One of the items I found in my gift bag from the Secret Room Emmy gift lounge was a box of Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company K Cups. Since this brand is not available in stores anywhere near here, I probably never would have heard of it otherwise. And that would be a shame, because not only is the coffee delicious, but those little K-cups are environmentally friendly and recyclable.
Yes, I’m one of those people who have forsaken the freshness of home ground coffee beans for the convenience of the single-serving coffee maker. But I’ve always felt a little guilty about all the plastic packaging involved. I’m also one of those people who recycles coffee grounds by adding them to my compost bin, to nourish the plants (more and more succulents these days–there is a drought going on) in my yard. My husband laughs at me as I carefully peel back the aluminum cover on the little K-cups, and scrape the contents out into my kitchen scrap bag. So along comes Chesapeake Bay K-cups, packaged in recyclable containers that use a minimum of plastic, and can be snipped with scissors, so the coffee falls right out.
Chesapeake Bay also sells whole bean coffee, which, averaging about $12.99 for a 13.0z. tin, isn’t that much more expensive than Starbucks. Their K-cups are a bit pricy, at $10.99 per dozen, but well worth it.
The company has an “H2O Initiative,” for which they pledge 2% of gross sales on every product they sell to go back in support of community organizations and groups that are helping make a measurable impact to the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Granted, that’s far away from L.A., but it’s nice to be able to make a difference wherever you can on this dear planet of ours. All this, and some of the most smooth, flavorful coffee I’ve ever tasted? This product is a win/win for everyone.
Wonderful.
