If it were in Malibu, maybe, but we think comedian/talk show host Dennis Miller is shooting a little high by listing his Carpinteria beach house for a whopping $22.5 million. As gorgeous as the home may be, it’s in south Santa Barbara County, not trendy, Oprah-infested Montecito, and it boasts 63 feet of sandy beach front, which is not even half the size of our own front lawn. On the home’s behalf, however, it’s a real stunner, and it being a little closer to Los Angeles might be of value to some.

Miller and his wife, former model Carolyn Espley-Miller, bought the house, 2003 for $11.75 million, then they completely remodeled it, giving it an East Coast beach vibe with plenty of light blue and whitewashed wood. They also installed more windows and Fleetwood doors, the better to take advantage of the amazing ocean sunset views.

The property measures a little over half an acre, and the house has five bedrooms, five and a half baths in 6,320-square-feet. Other notable features include six fireplaces, a wine cellar, an office and a guest apartment complete with a kitchenette and bathroom, accessible via its own exterior staircase, right above to the three-car garage.

There’s no doubt that Miller is a talented home renovator, as well as an entertainer. He got his start back in the mid-80’s as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, and went on to host a number of TV talk shows for various networks. He currently hosts a daily, three-hour radio talk show syndicated by Westwood One. He still packs the house when he does standup, occasionally takes a role in a film when it suits him, and is valued as a guest sports commentator. According to The Wall Street Journal, he’s selling the home because his two sons are grown and gone, and he and his wife are ready to start a new chapter. See more photos in my gallery at HGTV.com.
