A private Malibu retreat in the celebrity-studded neighborhood of Point Dume has been put on the market for $7.99 million by its Emmy award-winning owners, who have spent the last 30 years residing in the picturesque property.

Directors and producers Paul Taublieb and Susan Cooper purchased the “light-filled residence” for just $740,000 in 1996 and have since raised their three sons inside the home—all the while working on several major movie hits, including “The Vow” starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum and highly regarded documentary “In the Blink of an Eye,” which focused on the friendship between racing legends Dale Earnhardt and Michael Waltrip.

Located on “one of the most desirable streets in Malibu,” the dwelling sits on 1 acre of rich landscape. It comes complete with private access to the popular Little Dume beach, which is referred to as a “surfer’s paradise,” making the property an ideal sanctuary for anyone seeking more time on the waves.

During their three decades of ownership, Taublieb and Cooper appear to have found much inspiration in and around the home, creating numerous surfing-focused productions, including the popular “Ground Swell” documentaries.

Speaking about their decision to sell the home after so many years, Taublieb, a prolific surfer, said that he and his wife are planning to move to a smaller property now that their kids have all moved out—noting that they are hopeful someone else will fall in love with the dwelling that holds so many happy memories for their family.

“With our three kids grown and gone, it’s time for someone else to have a Shangri-la to raise their family” said Taublieb. “We’ve found a nice cozy place for Susan and I that still allows us to maintain the beach lifestyle and me still surfing the local waves.”

Still, the couple has made a lasting impression on the home—which is listed by Susan Monus, a Coldwell Banker global luxury property specialist affiliated with the Malibu office of Coldwell Banker Realty.

The property, which was built in 1978, has been lovingly overhauled by the duo over the years to marry “architectural charm with the relaxed feel of resort living in Malibu,” according to the description.

Enormous windows, multiple skylights, and soaring ceilings help to flood the home with light, while elegant white walls help to give the living spaces a truly expansive feel.

“Large clerestory and canyon-facing picture windows bathe the interiors in abundant natural light, creating a warm blissful atmosphere throughout,” the listing states.

The great room features a double height ceiling and includes a formal dining area that overlooks a sunken living room with an Emmy-bedecked fireplace—although these statues are unlikely to be included in the final sale!

That space opens up to a quaint kitchen with a handcrafted tile countertop and a sweet breakfast nook with a built-in banquette.

Adjacent to that is a cozy, wood paneled and shingled den with a covered porch.

The main floor also features two bedrooms that share a bathroom—although one of the rooms is currently being used as home office.

At the top of a skylight-filled stairwell, there’s a spacious bonus room, originally an open loft, with a vaulted ceiling, white-painted wood rafters, skylights and glass block dividers for privacy from the rest of the house. It can be used as an artist, recording, or editing studio or virtually any kind creative space.
