ANOTHER SIMPLE FAVOR Review — Read It Now, Thank Me Later

Lisa Johnson Mandell’s Another Simple Favor review provides you with everything you need to know to get maximum entertainment value from Prime Video’s delicious new fun and frothy film.

Another Simple Favor reviewI’ve been looking forward to Prime Video’s release of the sequel to 2018’s female frenemies comedy A Simple Favor for quite some time.

It starred Anna Kendrick as a Mommy vlogger with a knack for crime solving, and Blake Lively as a femme fatal with a knack for crime. The fun, fashionable, multi-level parody party was refreshing, ideal for a girl’s night out.

This streaming sequel with the same two lead characters could be the ideal for a girl’s night in, spiced up with returning stars like Harry Golding, Andrew Rannalls and cocktails. Lots of cocktails.

But I’m afraid you’ll be a bit confused if you don’t re-watch the original (after all, it’s been almost seven years) or at least find a decent recap online. I’ll do my best to give you a quickie version.

Another Simple Favor review — what you need to know

Stephanie (Kendrick) a somewhat uptight widowed Mommy Vlogger, makes friends with the glamorous fashionista Emily (Lively) via their sons, who are friends at school. Over the course of the film, Emily disappears and Stephanie is committed to searching for her. When her assumed body is found in a lake, Stephanie, in mourning has a tryst with Emily’s husband Sean (Golding).

Light hearted insurance fraud, false identities, extortion, murder and the revelation of evil triplets (they couldn’t stop at twins) ensue. In the end, Emily (not her real name) winds up in prison thanks to Stephanie’s investigation, and Stephanie has more than a million followers of what is now a Mommy crime solving vlog. Their relationship has become frayed at best.

It’s all very soapy and scintillating

Cue the bubbles five years later for the sequel. Stephanie’s new book reading is crashed by the appearance of Emily, who should still be in prison. The two renew that old spiky chemistry, as Emily explains she’s engaged to an uber wealthy Italian whose connections got her out of the clink.

Their Capri wedding is imminent, and for reasons unknown, Emily insists that Stephanie comes along to be the Maid of Honor. What could go wrong?

Both films have plots that are needlessly complicated with heavy helpings of silly on the side, but that’s beside the point. The scenery! The repartee! The wardrobes! It’s worth the watch just to ogle Lively’s outrageously sexy pant suits. I’m still trying to figure out where I can find one like the aqua satin number with the ostrich feathers and rose bloom top. It’s truly to die for, as some of the characters in the film find out.

Rated R

2 Hours

If this Another Simple Favor review sends you bounding for the remote, find it fast on Amazon’s Prime Video.
