The Glory of Sue Wong Fashion Show “Mythos & Goddesses”

No one ever claimed that the Los Angeles version of Fashion Week rivals New York’s, but you’d never know that from inside Hollywood’s Taglyan complex on a recent balmy night, when internationally renowned designer Sue Wong kicked off Art Hearts Fashion Week with a hypnotic and sensual Goth Opera fashion show entitled “Mythos & Goddesses,” to introduce  her Fall 2015 collection. I was lucky enough to be among the 900-plus celebrities, ambassadorial delegates, members of the press, stylists, and fashion editors in attendance, and I have to say, I was completely overwhelmed.

The runway show started off elegantly with a powerful prelude performance by world-renowned British operatic soprano Summer Watson, “invoking the inter-dimensional Sue Wong Goddesses.” The Mount Olympus theme continued in the celestial gowns, headdresses and accessories that floated down the runway. Sue describes her show like this:

“It’s not just a gown or mere fashion. I create an experiential transformation, awakening the inner goddess within every woman who wears a SUE WONG.” Sue’s ethos is about Goddesses and their representational archetypes. Paying homage to her three patron Goddesses, Sue explains: “Aphrodite: I am an advocate of Love and I create Beauty; Artemis: I’m a fierce warrior-goddess cutting my swathe through the world; Athena: I’m a seeker of truth and wisdom. I mythologize my gowns through these Goddess archetypes.”

The drama of the event was heightened by spectacular headdresses by Kicka Custom Design, Lisa Marinucci Collection and Maggie Schpak – Studio Art Metal shop. The Goddess-gowns were also complimented by exquisite custom jewel creations from Vilaiwan, Lisa Marinucci Collection and Maggie Schpak – Studio Art Metal shop. The accessories heightened the impressions left by the gowns of lace, satin and chiffon, accented with Sue’s signature intricate couture embellishments including exquisite hand-beadwork, cascading floral embroidery, seutache embroidery paired with shimmering lace-illusion yokes, cut-out lace petals, deconstructed ribbon, ruffles, flowing chiffons and filigree lace. I was dazzled by draped floor-length sweeping gowns, cocktail dresses and bejeweled skirts in shades of beige, taupe, black, platinum, magenta, jade and sandalwood.

Having worn a Sue Wong gown or two in my time, I have to say that they do indeed make you feel like a Goddess–or at least feel like you look as great as you possibly can. The wonderful thing about them is that they’re so accessible–they’re not outlandish outfits that only look good on 98 lb. 5’11” models–they’re fabulous on anyone, be they size 2 or size 12. That’s why, after seeing this fashion show, I knew I absolutely had to wear Sue Wong in my AtHomeInHollywood fashion shoot. I know that if anything can make me look decent, it’s a Sue Wong dress. After all, she’s been selected by celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Minnie Driver and Taylor Swift. Sue Wong is available

You can easily find Sue Wong styles in stores like Saks, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s and Lord & Taylor, priced from from $385 to $ 900. Very soon you’ll be able to select her gowns from her own, dedicated fashion website. I’ll keep you posted on the launch.
