What’s Up? The Chris Pratt Real Estate Portfolio Takes a Hit
While actor Chris Pratt‘s box-office accomplishments are undeniable, his success in the real estate market appears to be a bit less charmed lately.
He’s been taking public heat for demolishing a midcentury modern classic in Brentwood to reportedly build a “massive ‘farmstyle’ mansion” in its place.
Meanwhile, he and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger have just reduced the price on their renovated, Pacific Palisades pad from $32 million to $25,495,000. Work on the place was completed a few years ago.
The red-hot celebrity couple purchased the property in June 2018 for $15,601,500. They demolished the existing house and rebuilt it from the ground up, remodeling it so extensively that the listing now states it was built in 2021.
They moved their family into the shiny, new abode in 2021 and frequently shared its many assets on Instagram—as well as on an episode of the Netflix series, “Get Organized With the Home Edit.”

The virtues of the sprawling, six-bedroom, 12-bath, 12,900-square-foot bastion are many. Set in an exclusive, gated enclave, the property has views of the Los Padres Mountains and the Santa Monica Bay coastline—clear out to Catalina Island.
The home has a rich, modern aesthetic, with the finest materials and custom finishes used to create an elegant yet California-casual vibe.
Among the dwelling’s most luxurious features are five fireplaces and a fire pit; a home theater with moss-green velvet seating; a glass-walled office with French doors that lead to the exquisitely manicured grounds; and a wellness center with a gym, spa, hot and cold plunge pool, steam room, and sauna.
The auspicious amenities extend outdoors, where the family has likely enjoyed the numerous patios and balconies; a saltwater pool with a Baja shelf; hot tub and swim jets; a half basketball court; golf simulator; and a pool cabana with a full kitchen, pizza oven, and high-end barbecue.
Off-market deal raises ire
After putting their Pacific Palisades property on the market, also in 2023, Pratt and Schwarzenegger reportedly made on off-market deal on a Brentwood property, just across the street from a compound owned by Schwarzenegger’s mother, Maria Shriver. It was the much-revered, midcentury modern abode known as the Zimmerman House, designed by esteemed architect Craig Ellwood in 1950.
Once the ink was dry on the contract, the couple promptly demolished the 2,770-square-foot, five-bedroom, three-bathroom house, according to the Robb Report, with a new home rising in its place.
Social media pundits were all agog, reported People Magazine.
“Unbelievable the notoriously onerous City of LA doesn’t allow anyone to do anything that makes actual sense – Allowed this midcentury modern house to be TORN DOWN,” wrote real estate agent Julie Chang on X.
There were also many heated comments on a Reddit post, including one calling the decision “incredibly sad.”
Until their Pacific Palisades home sells, Pratt and Schwarzenegger will be the owners of three pricey properties—they’ve also been known to spend time at their extensive farm in Washington state’s San Juan Islands, where they raise chickens, sheep, and other livestock.
Before Pratt, 44, became one of Hollywood’s hottest stars in franchises such as “Jurassic World,” “Lego Movie,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” he had a successful television career—perhaps most memorably on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.”
Last summer, he voiced the title character in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” and this summer he’s enjoying box-office success as the voice of the title character in “The Garfield Movie.”
Schwarzenegger, 34, the oldest child of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Shriver, has written five books and is popular on social media.
Major price cuts and public criticism indicate that the Katherine Schwarzenegger/Chris Pratt real estate portfolio is experiencing growing pains.
