It’s not uncommon for people involved in the entertainment industry to have a pied-à-terre in Nashville, TN, these days. Just ask Reese Witherspoon and Justin Timberlake.

Perhaps actress and comedian Lily Tomlin has a soft spot for the area because she had a breakout role in Robert Altman‘s movie “Nashville.” Or maybe it’s because her wife, Jane Wagner, was born and raised in Tennessee. Or it could be that Tomlin just knows a good real estate investment when she sees one.

Whatever the case, Tomlin has been buying and selling homes in Nashville over the past year, and it appears the 84-year-old actress has been trading up.

Let’s take a look.

In 2017, Tomlin purchased a stately brick Tudor in the coveted Pine Forest neighborhood on the outskirts of Nashville for a modest $393,000.

It has four bedrooms and three baths in 3,140 square feet of space. Luxe features include hardwood floors, marble bathrooms, a dine-in kitchen, and a spacious primary suite with a double-sided fireplace, lounging area, and walk-in closets.

The couple sold that property in February for $630,000, the dramatic increase in price possibly the result of a rapidly improving real estate market.

In June 2023 they purchased a posh townhouse a little closer to Nashville’s beating heart, for $950,000.

The traditionally styled dwelling features 3,586 square feet of living space, which encompasses three bedrooms. It’s part of a gated community with amenities such as a large pool.

The home features a finished basement currently set up as a theater, an elevator, a third-floor bonus space with built-in shelving, and a covered deck out back.

This property was built in 1997 and remodeled in 2005, the listing notes.

Tomlin’s career in the entertainment industry spans over 50 years. She’s earned Emmys, Tonys, and a Grammy. Her breakthrough came when she starred on the sketch comedy show “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.”

Tomlin also starred in movies such as “The Late Show,” “9 to 5,” and “A Prairie Home Companion,” and TV roles in “The West Wing,” “Murphy Brown,” and “Grace and Frankie.” In the latter, she played opposite Jane Fonda.
