Mother’s Day Gift Guide — Mom Needs Something a Little Different This Year
This Mother’s Day Gift Guide gives great ideas that will keep Mom healthy, happy and occupied, whether you get to be with her or are sharing love from afar.
Think of how many poor moms will have to suffer through Mother’s Day this year with no children on hand to adore them. Consider of all the wonderful women in your own life who would be thrilled to be remembered—especially this year, when their contact with others is so limited.
Personally, I’m devastated because I can’t be with my own sweet mom on Mother’s Day — she’s sheltering in place and has only her lovable little Labradoodle Charley (plus a zillion TV shows) to keep her occupied and entertained. She, like most moms, could use something fun to fill those long, empty pandemic days.
So I thought a Mother’s Day Gift Guide filled with interesting, healthy, comfortable and participatory goodies that Mom won’t have to watch die (flowers), won’t make her feel guilty (fitness equipment) and won’t junk up her house (funky figurines).
Here are some simple, unique, thoughtful gifts that will intrigue Mom, make her even more beautiful, help her on her wellness path, or just plain crack her up. I know this, because I ran them all by my own Mom, and got the Claire Doolittle seal of approval. Well, except for the Dolce and Gabana mixer, which she feels is a little too extravagant.
I’ve also included a wide range of prices and interests, so you might be inspired to send a little something to all the Mom-type figures in your life. Think of aunts, friends, neighbors, etc. who may not have children of their own (hint, hint). Or treat yourself! You deserve it!

Goat Yoga Pants
Remember last year when I went to that Goat Yoga event at Griffith Park and video of the feisty little creature pooping on me went viral? No one really cared about the doody—they just wanted to know where I got my pants. They’re comfy, chic, look good on everyone and they’re surprisingly inexpensive. Great for travel or just sitting around the house. My Mom now has three pairs.

BioFit360 Gift Set
Here are my favorite CBD company’s most Mom-worthy goodies, combined in a cute little burlap bag. The set includes heavenly Relief Cream that vanishes aches and pains almost anywhere on your body, plus the new improved Sleep Tincture that contains a whopping 1000mg CBD, and a Go Pak of Relax vegan gummies (30mg CBD each!) to relieve brain fog and help Mom chill—essential if she’s working from home.

Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese
You may find more expensive cheese gift boxes, but you won’t find any that are this kind of special. All Crave Brothers Cheeses are handcrafted right there on the farm in Waterloo, Wisconsin, using only the freshest, high quality milk from their own dairy! Uniquely American, they’re famous for award wining fresh mozzarella, mascarpone, rope string cheese and a variety of delicious cheese curds (or, as I like to call them, baby cheeses). Their gift boxes are especially reasonably priced, ranging from $16.00 to $22.99! I recommend the Crave Chocolate Mascarpone Pie Kit — give Mom a little something to do as she whips up ultimate decadence. The most reasonably priced item in our Mother’s Day Gift Guide.

Dolce and Gabana SMEG mixer
For the Mom who has everything and has resorted to baking her own bread, how about the ultimate splurge, this colorful Dolce and Gabana decorated stand mixer, a Neiman Marcus exclusive (of course). From the ‘Sicily is My Love’ collection, it decorated with silk screen and lithography, features a die-cast aluminum body with a zinc-alloy base, and comes with its very own stainless steel bowl. At this price, it darn well better! For someone who makes a lot of dough. By far the priciest item in our Mother’s Day Gift Guide.
$1,500 at Neiman Marcus
Lauryn’s Garden Self Love Set
There are a lot of these types of sets out there, but I like this special Mother’s Day Self Love Bundle from Lauryn’s Garden because it’s colorful and lovely and comes from a small plant based skin care company that started in Philadelphia PA and is now operating out of Los Angeles county. The set comes prettily wrapped, and features rose petal detox mineral bath, pomegranate rose massage oil, rose water facial toner, a reusable, water activated makeup remover cloth and a travel sized hand and surface sanitizer-formulated with CDC approved organic ingredients and infused with essential oil.

SleepPhones
Does your Mom feel silly in bulky headphones and/or detests little insertable earbuds? I know I do. Then she’ll end up loving SleepPhones, what could well be the most comfortable headphones ever made for sleeping, studying, relaxing, traveling, traveling, working out, whatever. They feature a soft headband that contains thin, removable speakers to play music, white noise, radio, whatever. They’re also fully padded with nothing sticking into the ears, come in several colors. and are so, so comfy!

Rouxbe online cooking classes
Pronounced “Ruby,” it’s the world’s leading online culinary school, and a subscription would make a tasty gift for Mom to keep her busy during these long quarantine days. There are hundreds of foundational lessons and recipes that teach everything from the basics of steaming, stewing, cutting and chopping, to the preparation of exotic meals. Mom can even get a 200 hour course that will end in Professional Cook Certification (if she’s good, and whose Mom isn’t?). There’s SO much here for her to enjoy!
$9.99 per month (after a free 30-day membership) on Rouxbe.com
Copper water bottle
If Mom is going to be staying hydrated by schlepping a water bottle around the house all day, she might as well sip in style, rather than from that plastic water bottle they gave her at the bank two years ago. This gorgeous copper water bottle from Copperh2O is not only beautiful, but recent studies have shown that copper is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-viral. The company that sells this pretty piece is 100% female-run, and has a “good karma” program where they donate 15% of their profits to non-profit groups that work to supply clean drinking water in developing countries.

Hollywood: Her Story, An Illustrated History of Women and the Movies
Of course the book in AtHomeInHollywood’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide would be a beautiful edition full of 1,000 photos of women in Hollywood from the 1890s to the present. It features more than 1200 women — actresses, directors, producers, editors, screenwriters, stuntwomen, animators, gossip columnists, makeup artists, costume designers and more. It begins at the dawn of the film industry and takes us right up through 2018. Mom could get lost in this book for days.

Acrylic Painting Set
When I ran these ideas by my own Mum, this is the one she became most excited about. Is there anyone with an artistic eye who wouldn’t enjoy dabbing a little paint on canvas these days with so much extra time on our hands? There are lots of kits online ranging from about $36.50 to $150, but the one I thought little Claire would like best is this 68-piece set from US Art Supply, that comes with an adjustable wood desk easel, 25 tubes of acrylic paint, seven brushes, canvases and lots more.

DIY Moss Wall Art Kit
I’m a huge fan of moss, or living wall art, and this easy kit gives Mom the chance to create her own. It includes a 13 x 13″ frame, backing, moss, hardware (sawtooth hanger), and an instructional pdf. Mom simply chooses a frame color (from light to dark): white, honey, or oak. Then picks a moss color (from light to dark): seafoam, chartreuse, basil, or a mixed assortment of the three. The reindeer moss is sustainability sourced and preserved, so the moss frame will requires zero maintenance. Woo hoo!

Bagel of the Month Club
If only I were a mom! I’d love fresh New York bagels made by 5th and 6th generation bagel bakers delivered right to my door—especially now, when I can’t run out and get them for myself. These bagels are water boiled, then baked in a brick oven and are also kosher. You can give Mom a 1-12 months subscription, each delivery comes with 13 fresh baked bagels in assorted flavors. And if Mom isn’t bagel kind of girl, check out their black and white cookie tin ($14.99). Heaven!
$44.95 for one month to $499.95 for a whole year, shipping included, at New York Bagel of the Month Club.
Back to the Roots Indoor Gardening
Whether she’s living in an apartment or a house, Mom will love growing her own veggies and herbs on her windowsill. Among the favorites are Microgreens, Ayesha’s Curry’s Kitchen Herb Garden, Mushrooms that grow in just 10 days, beautiful lavender, and the all-time favorite Water Garden 2.0. Most kits are 100% organic, non-GMO and zero-waste, since they’re made of 100% compostable and recyclable materials

Luxe Masami hair care
Since Mom has to do her own hair these days, a little extra help from Masami’s premium haircare products could be just the thing. Masami uses Japanese ocean botanicals for massive hydration, with no sulfates, phthalates or parabens. Their line consists of shampoo, conditioner, shine serum and styling cream that work on virtually every hair type. The travel kit combines them all.
