Steve Martin Sold His Island Paradise — Take a Look Inside

Actor, author, comedian, art collector and banjo player extraordinaire Steve Martin sold his Caribbean retreat, “Villa Au Soleil,” just last week. He’d owned the very private retreat since 2007, and listed it for € 7,250,000, or about $7,822,615.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Martin and his work. I like to think he actually remembered me from the film junket interviews I used to do with him, because he was always warm and friendly when I’d run into him at The Farm in Beverly Hills, in the days when I lived nearby and he ate there often.

You might not realize it, but this consummate entertainer is a bit of an introvert, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that he spent a lot of his downtime at this gorgeous retreat, situated atop a lush tropical paradise in Lurin on St. Barthelémy, with stunning views of the turquoise bay of Saint Jean, as well as the islands of St. Martin and Anguilla.

Built on one level, the home was designed for privacy and entertaining. A gourmet kitchen opens on one side to the indoor dining room,

and on the other side, there’s an outdoor dining space with a second kitchen and barbeque.

The master suite has a very cool and surprisingly private outdoor shower and spa.

The property also includes a lily pond surrounding a garden gazebo,

and a caretaker’s home. Somebody had to mind the place while Martin was on tour, playing his banjo, which was his favorite thing to do of late.

With characteristic loyalty, Martin used Sibarth Real Estate/Christie’s International Real Estate for the original 2007 purchase, and for the most recent sale. Christian Wattiau, managing partner of Sibarth Real Estate/Christie’s International Real Estate, says he’s now “thrilled to have concluded this latest transaction to the satisfaction of both buyer and seller.”

“Utmost privacy, panoramic views and gorgeous sunsets are among the most sought-after assets of a St Bart’s retreat, and they are truly maximized in the commanding hilltop location of this beautiful home,” he noted.
