If These Walls Could Sing: Phil Collins Buys J-Lo's Former Beachside Estate
I usually stick to fabulous homes in the Southern California area here on AtHomeInHollywood.com, but when Phil Collins buys a spectacular estate that used to belong to Jennifer Lopez, I’ll make an exception. This one is in the Miami area, with 200 feet of Biscayne Bay frontage and unrivaled Miami skyline views. The former Genesis drummer and front man picked up the seven-bedroom, eight full baths and three half-baths estate for a record $33 million. Collins has a home in New York, but spends quite a bit of time in Florida, where his two sons live.
“This property has long been a standout in the marketplace…and a sale of this magnitude – surpassing the 30-million-dollar threshold — further demonstrates the draw of Miami Beach to interested buyers from across the United States and around the world,” said EWM Realty/Christie’s International Real Estate top-producer Nelson Gonzalez. Lopez sold the estate in 2005 to healthcare and financial services executive Mark Gainor and his wife, Elyse.
Built in 1929, the main residence comprises 12,153 square feet of living space, and is built in the Mediterranean style of Spain and Italy, with arched arcades, covered terraces, open interiors, and extensive use of stone and tile.
It has, however, been fully renovated in a complementary contemporary style, with a customized chef’s kitchen equipped with stainless steel appliances; a wine cellar with temperature control for up to 800 bottles; an elevator, an integrated security and camera system, Lutron lighting, Creston home automation systems,
a master suite that includes a private terrace and custom designed walk-in closets, a three car garage and a separate entrance for the help. It has been featured in The New York Times and Style Magazine.
Outside, the secure and gated entry opens to grounds of more than one acre, encompassing a lush royal palm forest, coconut palms and a koi pond. Of course there’s a large pool and spa, surrounded by Dominican coral stone decking, and enhanced by a summer kitchen and cabana.
And what beachside estate in the Miami area would be complete without a new dock at the water’s edge with a boat lift with 20,000 pound capacity and double jet-ski lift?
I can’t help but wonder if Phil Collins is currently wandering through the halls singing “Take a look at me now!” Or if he sits outside on his deck and hums, “I can feel it coming in the air tonight…” Just putting it out there that my Girlz and I would be a most appreciative audience if he ever needs one.
