Jason Bateman Shows No Arrested Development in Real Estate
Jason Bateman, star of the soon-to-be released Horrible Bosses 2, is not showing any Arrested Development when it comes to real estate deals. He recently listed the Hollywood Hills home he bought for $885,000 in 2002, and is now asking $2.25 million for it. Yes, the MidCentury Modern has been almost completely redone so it no longer has that hippy dippy feeling, but he’s still expecting to make quite the profit for a four bedroom, 2.75 bath home in L.A.’s fabled but flawed Laurel Canyon area.
Located on one of the Wonderland streets, you can’t help but think of the unsolved “Wonderland Murders” when you hear of it. To its credit, there is privacy, a rustic feeling, and a convenient location just minutes away from WeHo. But to many, the extreme traffic in the canyon during rush hour overwhelms the positives.
The post and beam house Jason Bateman, 45, and his wife, actress Amanda Anka (daughter of Paul Anka) are selling measures 2,879 square feet. It has an expansive great room where you’ll find a central fireplace that could use some cleaning, a generous bar/island in the kitchen, and an open dining room area. It features walls and doors of glass, hardwood and stone flooring, and mature, lush landscaping that includes a waterfall that cascades into a koi pond and several other water features. There’s no pool, though — that’s not uncommon in this hilly area.
Bateman’s best work recently was in the dark family comedy This is Where I Leave You. Before that he worked with his wife on the well received film Bad Words. But he’s probably best known for his role as Michael Bluth in the TV series Arrested Development, recently updated and aired on Netflix. See more photos in my gallery on HGTV’s Frontdoor.com.
