Truebies Rejoice! The HBO "True Blood Complete Series" Blu-Ray Arrives
By Staci Layne Wilson
True Blood, based on Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mystery books, enjoyed seven successful and scintillating seasons on HBO. The show chronicled the adventures of a telepathic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Pacquin), following her encounters in a strange new paranormal world after she fell for a mysterious Louisiana gentleman and vampire, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).
It was wildly entertaining, what with its peek into the seamy underbelly of vampire politics, the integration of several supernatural species (including faeries, werewolves, witches and the like), and small town life/afterlife.
But let’s face it: we red-blooded fans watched it for the steamy sex scenes… amiright? There are far too many memorable mash-ups to recount, but let’s just say there were all the different strokes for different folks – from Sookie and Bill’s frolicsome threesome with Nordic hottie Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård); Sookie’s buff bro Jason (Ryan Kwanten) with a vampire groupie known as a Fangbanger; to a bacchanal not for the bashful in which the entire town of Bon Temps partook in an eye-popping orgy.
After the hefty boxed set is released on November 11, 2014, you can freeze-frame any sizzling scene you want on Blu-ray and digital high-def. I’m definitely looking forward to revisiting Bon Temps because for me, the labyrinthine plots, twists, turns, and plethora of new characters and subplots feel fresh as a pushed-up daisy, upon second and third viewings. (Plus, I missed the last two seasons – can’t wait to see how it all ended!)
The bonus material runs almost as long as the series itself – that’s 80 hours (excluding bonus features). Truebies will love all the commentaries, behind the scenes shenanigans, and fully interactive guides, archives, and final days on the set specials. At $169.99 on Amazon, it isn’t cheap, but it’s a lot of fang bang for your buck.
